My long distance drive impression

In October 2013 I had a total hip replacement. I am going somewhere with that.

Something you don't learn on a 10 minute test drive is the effects of driving the car on a road trip.

In 2014 I test drove a new Camaro then went straight to the Ford dealer and test drove a new Mustang. I had difficulty seeing over the instrument cluster in the Camaro where my visibility in the Mustang was great. I am 5'6 with long legs for my size, meaning short torso, I don't sit up very high in a seat. I think that was the biggest selling point for the Mustang to me.

So I buy the Mustang and find out that because the seats are so hard after half an hour of driving my leg starts to ache then go numb. Also for some reason the steering wheel would make my hands ache. Those things coupled with multiple other disappointments with the Mustang, combined with seeing pictures of the 6th gen, gave me buyer's remorse.

After eventually, and spontaneously, buying my Camaro when I took my Buick in for an oil change, I took a trip to Colorado. I was in the car for 9 hours each way, and countless hours while there. My leg never started to ache until about 4 1/2 hours in. I got out walked around a bit and I was fine for another 4 1/2 hours. I have never experienced anymore aching in my hands.

If I ever replace the Camaro (my current plan is to keep it the rest of my life) I will absolutely do a road trip for a test drive.

My point, for a single man, or a couple with no kids, I find the Camaro to be an extremely comfortable car for a road trip. On top of that I never got tired of driving.

I was thinking of doing a road trip next year for my annual vacation. I've never done a long road trip and there are plenty of sights in the US I have never seen. Thanks for sharing. I've been wondering what road trip experience people have had with their Camaros. I am thinking Detroit to the Grand Canyon, but it's about 28 hours of driving. I'm still trying to decide if I can manage this myself, regardless of the obvious comfort level and capability of the Camaro.

I've only been on 4 hour trips, and I have the 1SS with cloth seats, but the seats are the most comfortable I've ever had. The longer I sat, the more supportive & comfortable they felt, usually I get sore after a few hours. I'm 42 with no injuries.

It's actually a great car for a road trip. I recently moved from San Diego to FL and drove mine cross country and it was a comfortable and a blast. The comfort mode in the MRC was great on highway and the cooled seats were great. Definitely a step up in comfort from my old Gen 5. Only one speeding "warning" I talked my way out of, 105 in an 80. I-10 is a boring highway.

Mine is almost a completely base model. It only has the V6 for options. And it was still FAR more comfortable than my Mustang was with the Comfort package.

This is so true, and the reason I rented a 2016 for a few days before buying one. I tested in different driving conditions, and drove on a fairly long road trip. Returned the car and ordered one a week later.

We did Milwaukee to Yellowstone in my 2014 Z51 Vette, put on 3500 miles. It was a great trip, longest stint without stopping except for gas was about 800 miles, no problems with aches and pains.

It may sound crazy, but I find my Camaro little more comfortable than my previous Cadillac CTS (2010). I don't know why I feel that way (can't really explain) but maybe I like the seat little better than the one in Caddy.

I did 500+ miles in one day, then autocross the next. Absolutely no driver fatigue here!

Did a 2800 mile trip from Virginia to Washington and was very impressed with the comfort of the seats, low road noise, and surprisingly great fuel economy. I never expected a v8 to average almost 28 MPG.

This past summer I drive our 2SS from the Gulf Coast in MS all the way to the Lake Ontario shoreline in Yates, NY and it was, by far, one of the most comfortable drives I have ever made. The car truly is EASY to drive long distances. Which might explain why I put 11K miles on it since mid-April!

I drive from Houston to Casa Grande in Arizona and back every Xmas and make it about 18 hours driving straight through. I've done it the last 3 times in a 5 Gen Camaro. The comfort I've experienced in my 6 Gen leads me to believe it will be even better. Best Camaro seats I've ever experienced.

I recently took mine from NC to Kansas and back. About 20 hours each way. I'm 59 and had surgery on my right leg in march 2014. I had problems with my right thigh muscle aching after the first 8-10 hours. Coming back it was even worse. Part of the problem is that there is so little room at your feet to move around and relieve pressure. I just made more rest stops to walk it off coming back. Not the cars fault but I know I would have been more comfortable in my Silverado High Country (sold). Getting old sucks...

+2 I agree. 4 to 4.5 hours no issues.
