Is 400 RWHP possible without cam on a L99?

Hey guys,

So right now I've got boltons, 3.91s, and a 3200 converter, and while I would LOVE to get a cam, I'm not sure that's ever in my future (unless I get some sick job or win the lottery). So, with that said, I'm thinking of grabbing a GPI rod modded/ported intake manifold and maybe a UDP to bump up my power.

I know the manifold can get me anywhere from 5-10 RWHP, and the UDP maybe 5, so if I figure my car dynos at 370 and I had say 10-15, that puts me at 380-385ish. This is still 15 RWHP off from 400, but is there anything else that could put me closer?

I was looking at electric water pumps, but they appear to be quite pricey. I'm also running an x-pipe with my longtubes through stock mufflers, and I have seen in some threads that maybe running dual pipes/bigger pipes may net some power.

Am I pretty much maxxed out after the manifold and UDP?

Now In all reality we usually see 450rwhp after cam and heads so I would say your going to be a little shy of your goal. You could do one or the other to just hit 400hp but most of job is done if doing a cam without heads so you might as well do them both. This is a full kit with install or we can send you parts to save money on install as well. Message me back or call me at 313-561-5500 my name is Jake if you have any questions. Thanks

Not familiar with the L99 enough, but here is a possible solution that would yield the most power most likely:

PMAS Intake
Ported TB
Ported Rod Mod Intake
1.8 Ratio Rocker Arms w/ Upgraded Valve Springs at proper installed heights
Kooks Stepped Headers 1-3/4 to 1-7/8
10% underdrive pulley
2.75" exhaust all the way back

Reading your signature and conserving what you have go:
Rod Mod Ported Intake
10% Underdrive Pulley
1.8 Rocker Ratio w/ New Springs

Someone is actually selling a great deal on the rocker package here:
https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=541065

You'll need new locators: https://store.katechengines.com/spri...ides-p374.aspx

I also suggest getting a pushrod length checker and upgrading to a 3/8 x .080 wall chromemoly pushrod. Install valves properly, measure, and then order the correct length when checked.

The major contributor will probably be the increase rocker ratio. Best of luck!

I have faith , i would go with the rod mod and ported intake from GPI , great company, along with a 25% UD then a 93 tune .
Dyno Steve was great for me and due to my schedule he was the right choice at the time but if you’re chasing a number that dyno tune with those mods will get you there .

Thanks derieu, I hadn't considered the rocker arms! I thought I had read some stuff that said they wouldn't help unless I was cammed, but it looks like I need to do more research!

So just to be clear guys, on my L99 I'm probably at 370 RWHP WITH my bolt-ons already...

I was going to mention 1.8 rockers but if you have a cam somewhere in your future I’d hold off

I'm 375 rwhp with all my mode.25 to 30 rwhp gains after fbo is not likely. If it were you would have seen it by now. My tuner said that I'm pretty much done. The stock cam is the drawback at this point.

The poor guy says he can't ever see himself being able to afford a $1500 cam swap so you offer him a $5600 Heads/Cam package instead. Have you no shame? lol

OEM L99 Cam:
195/201 @ .050, .294/.289 lift. - 115 LSA.
.500/.492 lift w/ 1.7 OEM rocker ratio

OEM L99 Cam w/ 1.85 Rocker
.544/.535 w/ 1.85 OEM rocker ratio.

if you want to sacrifice a little torque, you could also retard the camshaft a hair to move the powerband up the torque curve. Heres a good summary:
https://help.summitracing.com/app/an...ing-a-camshaft

Also I forgot to mention CNC heads. Katech has a great CNC porting service, $500 out the door for CNC'd heads when you send your factory heads in.
https://store.katechengines.com/cnc-...pair-p599.aspx

CNC'd heads, 1.85 rockers w/ supporting mods, Rod mod intake, possible retard OEM cam by 4 degrees, and you'll be blow past the 400whp mark.

I likely have the 2 highest Bolt on/slash a few internal mods with my LS3s. Things I can tell you wont make a difference are 102tb and Intake (as far as fast / rod mod) I had Electric water pump, 1 7/8 headers, 3" X, 1.85 rockers, PSI1511 springs, Ported Rod Mod intake, Ported TB, Removed all tensioners and idler pulleys, Z28 CAI, E85 (Flex Fuel) and LSA injectors. I made 453 SAE and went 11.5@120 with full interior. L99 car can for sure get to 400 or really close.

Throw on EWP and a crank scraper theres another 15 easy add a ported rod mod intake another 6-8. Lots of little things to get the power freed up. You have to open the wallet for the little things for sure. But thats the difference between joes FBO < average and going all out > not many of us lol
