GT-R is an awesome car, and I even like how it looks. I'm not going to trade any of my cars in on one though.

I'm also pretty disappointed in how quickly the MSRP has increased since it was released. A 2008 model had a base MSRP of ~$69k, the 2013 GT-R now has a base MSRP of ~$96K. The MSRP even jumped something like $7k after the first model year in '09.
I wonder how of that has to do with how ridiculously strong the Japenese yen is compared to how ridiculously weak the merican dollar now is.

As re-makes of movies come and go... the GT-R could be a "fast-and-furious" version of a Back To The Future movie re-make.

You know that is actually a fair point I hadn't considered. I'm sure that is certainly part of it, I'm curious now how much though. I really can't think of any other Japanese cars that had nearly a 40% increase in MSRP over the same time like the GT-R has. Of course the GT-R has also seen quite a few improvements since 2008 as well.

The GT-R is the one Japanese import I would be willing to pay the asking price for. There's no reason for a car that inexpensive (comparatively) to be as good as it is. Even if you have the staunchest "no imports" outlook, you have to respect the GT-R.

There's two V6 cars I would definitely own, GNX and GT-R.

Think it had more to do with the performance of the car and current market demand. If people want something you can pretty much choose your price point. Nissan grossly underestimated how much people were willing to pay in 09. Car is now "market adjusted".

I actually went looking for some reasons instead of speculating. Didn't really find any reasons, mostly just pointing out the rapid increase in MSRP.

Sales volume hasn't fallen off all that much since 2008, so it might very well be market pricing, but sales aren't as strong as they were in '08 and '09. But strong initial sales is fairly normal for most low-volume performance cars.

If money was no problem, and Nissan backed the warranty on it. I would own this.

I always thought Nissan was selling them at a loss in '08 and '09. And I think Nissan decided that if dealers were going to jack the price up, they might as well make sure it's Nissan Motors and not the dealer reaping the rewards. Maybe it was always the plan to use dealer mark-up as a gauge of how much to jack up MSRP. I just hope it doesnt end up like the 300ZX, 3000GT, RX7, etc...

Bet it will look exactly like every other porche and still sound like a bag of tools down a dirt road while in motion.
They need a new exhaust note for sure.

Lets see what a REAL car guy has to say?

When the guys from Top Gear say "I like It" "I want it" "Its the fastest car to 60 I have ever test" what is left to say?

People who drag race these things should be ashamed and we who "do it properly" should shame them. James May says the computer figures out how to handle traction depending on the road conditions - in other words, it removes all driver skill in drag racing.

I'm surprised there aren't more people who make fun of smug GT-R drivers whose cars do well (as opposed to they doing well) in drag racing.
