Insurance

How does a insurance company verify how many miles I drive?
All companies I know of ask how much you drive but a few I spoke to said they verify that number.
I am mainly asking in reference to GIECO. Does anyone here use GIECO? Do they ask you for proof of your annual milage?

I thought Geico gave you a small device that plugged into the diagnostic port. Do you have to give them access to OnStar?

I believe that is optional

I just received my August Diagnostic report from OnStar. They discussed how OnStar could help you reduce your insurance costs by 5-50%. They have agreements with State Farm Liberty Mutual, National General , and others not listed. I have State Farm so I looked at how it works for them. You provide access to OnStar and State Farrm's In-Drive Communicator collects the following data:
•Miles driven
•Acceleration
•Braking
•Right and left turns
•Speed
•Time of day the vehicle is driven

Additionally in FAQS, if your are insured as a 'low mileage' vehicle and exceed the specified miles, your insurance can go up. I would believe that if your driving characteristics above are out of the 'norm', there could also be some negative consequences.
Either Progressive or Geico collect data with a device on the data port.
