2017 ZL1 Tuner Advise

I have a 2017 ZL1 and want to get a tuner.
What type of tuner do you guys prefer? Is there one that is really better than another or is it just personal preference?

I am putting a Rotofab CAI kit on tomorrow and possibly changing the upper pulley. After which I am going to have it put on a dyno & tuned.

Any suggestions / comments / opinions greatly appreciated!

Thanks all.

I’m not sure if you’re trying to find a company that sells a hand held tuner with “canned” tunes, or you’re looking for a person to actually tune your car. Either way, I’d do the latter. Find a good local shop with plenty of LT4 experience.

I don’t know of any good tuners in Indiana, though I’m
sure you have options.

In my experience, HP Tuners always stood out as "the best" in GM tuning software. Handheld tuners are "ok" - but I honestly wouldn't bother. I also highly recommend you have a reputable LS/LT tuner do the work for you on the dyno AND street.

Most reputable tuners use HP Tuners on this platform. It’s what I use.

That said, you seem to be fairly close to Weapon-X, Livernois, and Katech. James Shor (Shor Tuning) is a good option, though probably a long road trip.

food for thought.. it may be easier to do the lower unless you have a way to refill the supercharger the Lt4 is notorious for air pockets causing the pump to shutoff which in turn sky rockets the AITs. its probably 400 bucks more this way in parts but, once its installed its easier to make pulley swaps also down the line if you do change blowers it can be used on the new setup vs throwing the labor and 230 for the part away..

The upper can be down with cutting it off with minimal damage according to a post i saw a few weeks ago wouldn't loose coolant that way either..

I have 2018 ZL1 with Roto-fab dry, Borla S-type.
I do tune my self using hp-tune.
As first lock in the stock tune, you don't have much to change.
If you will change the upper pulley then it's worth tuning.

Dyno tune

I recommend NicKey Performance in St Charles, IL.
Stefano and crew are 2nd to none. Couldn’t be happier with my car!

Speed Inc is probably your best bet. I know two ZR1s who got work done there, great shop and good tuners. They do a lot of Gen 6 ZL1s as well.

Take a look at Mike Norris, owner of Morris Motorsports in Plainfield, IN. He's been around a long time. They use to call him the Vette Doctor.

I used that guy. Without going into details I will never go back. He did tell me you have to remove the entire maggy supercharger and send it back to the factory to install a Cog Drive.

There are several people who have did it on the car.

X 2 and X 3 for Speed Inc. They did 2 of my cars and the second was my '18 ZL1 this past March. (Do the bottom Balancer/Pulley)...
