Heated Outside Rear View Mirror

2015 2SS with RS package.

I was looking at my outside rearview mirrors and noted that there is an indicator that the heat on the mirrors are on.

I turn on the rear defroster and the back glass heats up, but the mirrors do not heat up and the indicators are off also.

Is this a problem or does it work as designed.

Thanks

Fuse tested good.

Any thought on diagnosis would be appreciated.

Rear defogger on, probe both sides of that same fuse with a 12v test light connected to a good ground. If only one side lights, it's the fuse. If neither side lights, it's the fuse block. Both sides should light. If so check the mirror connector behind the door panel. Disconnect it and test the body side of the connector terminal C with the rear defogger on. Should light. If not, there's a break in the circuit between the fuse box and mirror. If it does light then I'd say the elements in the mirror glass are bad. They share the same power source but have different grounds so I doubt it's a ground issue.

There have been issues with the connecter and wiring for the doors either from broken wires or corrosion. Usually shows up at the lock control or window control though. Mine will lock itself occasionally and is worse after washing it.

Latest update

- tested both sides of the fuse and it lit up.

- passenger mirror is hot like the back window but no indicator light.

- driver mirror is just warm but no indicator light.

Thoughts?

At some point you will have to get a copy of the wiring diagrams and start checking things at each plug.

You might try checking the resistance across the heating element of both mirrors to see if they are the same to discount something there. Although I would expect it to fail completely if the heating element was bad.

Is my best course of action to buy replacement glass , either new or used?

Not until you track down what is wrong. I would guess that you have a wiring issue. Since both are actually working some but different amounts, probably a corroded connector. I have to say though, I've never had a problem with a heated mirror so I'm not totally familiar with how the system operates. I couldn't even tell you whether my 2010 actually even has a heated mirror. I'll try and check the service manual this evening and see if it list diagnostic steps and to study the wiring diagrams to get a better idea of how it functions.

I wasn't under the impression that the mirrors had any indicator lights beneath the symbol. I know mine have never lit up when they've been on.

This also makes ZERO mention of any lights. It simply states to verify the mirror gets warm.

Think I will ask the forum for those who have a 2SS to see if they can confirm a light
