Knock Retard
Looking for some help please. My car just started pulling large amounts of timing. On my SCT X4 I'm seeing upwards in excess of 12-15* of knock. It is mainly in 1st - 4th gear, on slightly moderate take off (nothing over 3500rpm). Remains until I fully release off throttle, and then only drops at a slow pace. This just started 2 dsys ago, and I have already inspected plugs, cleaned MAF, checked for leaks (nothing has been removed from the car prior to this starting).
Mods CAI, LTH, Full SS exhaust and tune. Just looking for some guidance as to some other things to check before I drive 1hr+ to a good shop. Would O2's cause this? I too have seen the same,max.10-12* of knock.
5-6* of knock is my "normal". I'm also cleaned MAF.I have also made BG Fuel/Air Induction service,they didn't help. |

Dumb question, you are running 93 octane correct?
Has the weather drastically changed?

Yes sir, always run 93. And occasionally will run an octane booster in it about every 2-3 months just b/c it makes me feel better. Weather has been big change here in GA (of course). We been in the mid 90's for last couple weeks.

Overflow, I would kill for 4* right now. This thing came out of nowhere. Showing out for a buddy, and bammmmmmmm Flat on her face. Then from that moment on, that reading from 1st gear start w/ just moderate driving. Seen it hit as high as 20* at one point. Last edited by Gordy87; 06-03-2019 at 09:54 PM. |

I'm hoping I found the issue. When I was inspecting everything I have read on here, or that I could think of, I ran across this. Must have overlooked it at least 4 times, and never even would have thought, if I wasnt trying to unplug my passenger O2 wire for inspection (which is also burnt, by the way). Got the wires repaired tonight, and will repair O2 extension tomorrow, followed up with kevlar heat wrap and a nice extra ground from back of the block to chassis for the start issues ( I have been ignoring). I will update once I find out if this corrects the issue. Hopefully the damage isnt done and traveled elsewhere in the electrical circuit.

I wonder if a motor mount may have caused the contact.

Needless to say, I got all the wiring repaired, or so I thought. After getting everything back in position and reinstalling fuel line, went to start it for a test run, and nothing, absolutely zip. Battery read only 4v, so after I had hooked battery back and before I had put fuel line on, the battery drained down completely. Back to the drawing board. Will take any advice you guys have, once again.

Just to put some closure to the thread here.
After charging the battery overnight on a trickle charger, I was expecting to throw it back in and let it sit so I could see if it drained back down. So after hooking the battery up to start the agony of what I thought was going to be a painstakingly difficult time of tracking down a short causing a slow drain down of the battery, I found the problem almost immediately. I have attached a picture of my findings. |

Apparently these 2 were working on every knob and button on the inside, while I was working on the outside, and after getting all the wiring repaired, as it was pretty late, I just hooked battery back up, and didnt even notice the flashers being on since I didn't attempt to start the car. It's pretty loud, as one of the guys that works for me that lives about 1/8th mile from me states, that he knows when its time to go to work when he hears my car start up in the mornings. So now I feel pretty dumb kinda, but glad it wasnt worse.
