Z/28 Spare tire /wheel and offset info
I need a spare tire set up in case of emergencies and prefer something full size. I have searched through the info here as best I could. It looks like some are saying a factory rear wheel can be used on the front and others say no. Does anyone know if a factory front size and offset can be used on the rear? My goal was to find one wheel that could run a factory 305/30/19 size tire and be used front or rear but need to know whether to find a front size and offset or a rear?
If any of you have a single factory wheel or any other wheel/tire combo that works for sale please let me know. Thanks |

Here is link to a spare tire kit for z/28 - this fits in spare well in rear but all who have it like it.

Thank you for the excellent information. That looks like the direction I am leaning toward right now. I'm looking for a setup that can run for several days if need be on a daily driver and the donut spare type options I personally wouldn't run but to the nearest safe place to stop. These size tires and wheels aren't exactly in stock everywhere you go so I need a solution that will be able to run long enough to order a tire and or wheel if had to.

Check out Modernspare.com. Just ordered one for my '15 Z and it fits in factory well like a glove. Jack, tools and front spacer included for just over 400 bones. Delivered to my door in 3 days. Haven't tried it on vehicle yet but other Camaro owners seem happy.

I think I like the looks of that wheel much better than the other similar set up. Does it fit without raising up the compartment cover? Thanks for sharing, I had not seen that one yet. Do you have a pic of it and how/where you keep the jack and tools?

Check this link. I had the same issue for a spare tire.
https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=563699 Modernspare is probably the best option IMO. Make sure you get the spacer. Rear will not fit in the front. Factory rims or spare, from my personal experience. https://modernspare.com/product/2010...ncluding-z-28/ Last edited by pzero; 12-01-2019 at 08:46 PM. |

Cover sits up about 1" after install, barely notice. Jack stows in factory clip after minor "channel lock" adjustment. I used some plastic tubing at ends of jack to prevent wiring harness chaffing. Handle and wrenches are in their own bag and fit neatly in front of battery. I wrapped the spacer and lug nuts in bubble wrap and placed them in a small box and secured them to aft cargo hold-down points in trunk with bungee strap. Test drove with brisk acceleration and abrupt turns (for safety). Stayed secure entire time.

Time to resuscitate this thread for interested parties. Removed my spare tire set-up for inspection and all looks good. This and the tow hook IMO are a must for everyone who drives their Z on public roadways. If any unforeseen trouble is encountered these items allow you to return to home base to remedy the situation.

Thanks for posting a picture. Didn't know it would fit in the well over the battery. I'm getting this for local trips. For longer trips, I throw a front wheel from my spare oem set in the trunk. I also carry the smallest AL floor jack from HF, front spring spacers (in case of a tow), Jack Pad from ZL1 add ons, and a few more items. All fits neatly in a tool bag.
