Dyno setup

Can someone tell me how to set the car up for dyno pulls? ie long push on traction control to turn off all nannies? tour sport track mode? paddle shift or let it shift. Im wondering if I am not setting the car up right causing the dip in the graph.

What gear are you dynoing in? Remember a A10 1:1 gear is 6th and may exceed the speed rating of the dyno. I would be dynoing in Sport mode with traction control and Electronic stability control both turned off. Beyond this, don't know what else to tell you, I am manual and don't see how I would have the issue you claim. Hopefully someone with an automatic and dyno experience can sort you out.

A10 1:1 is 7th but yes you will possibly exceed the dynos speed rating.

Do your pulls in 6th gear, I pulled mine in 7th and we were close over 180 mph on the dyno so we did the next in 6th gear and were in the 150s. The owner of the dyno usually doesn't like those high mph numbers and it doesn't seem safe to me either. I just turn off the traction control and put it in the sport mode. You won't have to turn it off every time after the first pull. Make sure the motor, trans and diff are at operating temps.

Do you pull the shifter over to hold it in the gear?

Yes. Usually the dyno owner will operate the car. I’ve never actually operated the car in a dyno.

You start out in 1st run it thru each gear and keep the rpm's at around 3500 when you shift and once you're in 6th gear bring the rpms to about 3500 before WOT. Never hit the brakes during the dyno run, the operator will do that with the brakes on the dyno drum or just let it coast down. I've done couple hundred pulls between my 82 Malibu 6.0 wagon, 16 Maggie ss, 16 C7 and now my 2022 Lt1. All on the same dyno jet. I did do about 12 pulls on another dyno when my buddies dyno was down so probably 210 pulls between all my cars and two dynos. I always do all the pulls myself and Billy just starts the run when I give him the signal and just let off at your chosen RPM, I usually run mine to about 6500.

I do get a special deal. I set Billy up as a Magnuson dealer and a hell of a deal on his first Magnuson. So yes, big discount and sometimes no charge at all. Just depends, he never wants money but usually I throw him some change if I get to 8 pulls which is pretty usual for me. I do stuff for him and he takes care of me.
