Battery Drain
Hi all,
I have a 2022 Camaro SS Convertible and notice a battery drain after 2 days. I am able to reproduce the issue on demand. 1. hook up Dewalt battery charger, fully charge battery. 2. tender battery for 24 hours. 3. car start fine 3 times in a row. 4. wait 2 days, and car will not start again. 5. rinse and repeat. Troubleshooting done: -removed wi-fi connection to home. -removed any apps that could be causing a battery drain. Next steps: -thinking about factory resetting infotainment system? I also have the 100k extended warranty, so know cost will be covered for repair when I bring it in. Just looking for other thoughts to test, or is this a cut and dry bad battery or gremlin in the electrical system that is causing a drain to occur? I like to be well prepared prior to bringing my car. Also work in hardware quality so part of my job is reproducing issues to developers and testing fixes. |

Id suggest having the battery tested, have you had that done? YOu wouldn't think a 22 would have a bad battery though.

Thanks for that, getting a good battery testing is a good idea for me.
As I have my Camaro, Silverado HD and a Yamaha Jet boat. Will also help in the process when bringing it in to the dealer. |

Just another thing to check, do you have any non-stock electrical component installed? Say, a hardwired dash cam, LED reverse light harness, bluetooth dongle or something that might be defective?

I can almost guarantee it’s a bad battery. My car was doing the same on a 1year old battery. Exchanged it under warranty and no mo issues.

I agree, bad battery. Not as unusual in a new car as one would think......

I had a similar "can't keep the thing from going dead" issue. I have a hunch there's some kind of bug in the BCM that tricks it into thinking there's an active fault and keeps it awake, something like the Cascada tail light fault when battery-half-dead issue. A few vert folks have had this happen. Battery drain is a well-known issue with cheap aftermarket tail lights.
Relevant thread: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...=537128&page=4 You can test whether the car is asleep (<25mA drain) or awake (>200mA drain) with a voltmeter by measuring voltage drop across the engine bay fuse. I posted the fuse voltage mA drain table on page 5 same thread. Our cars charge their AGMs VERY SLOWLY. A 2 hr drive is not sufficient to completely recharge a dead battery. I've only had luck using a tender (which took most of a week from dead to full). If your battery is half-dead and triggering the BCM into a trouble state, then you'll never keep the thing charged. Charge it all the way up. 24hr on a tender isn't enough. EDIT: I use a CTEK MXS 5.0 which can sometimes throw a fault if my car has high drain (it thinks the battery can't hold charge). So I also use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N1FQDFH/ and careful not to fully close the trunk after you open the switch, or you'll need 12V on the front hood jumper posts to get it open again. here is direct link to the chart referred to in Gunkk's post.
So, you measure drop across the fuse in milliVOLTS, then based on size (rating) of the fuse, you get the value for current drain in milliAMPS. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=59 |

Wouldn't be just as fast is to stop by Auto zone and have them run a battery check. When they put a carbon pile test it will show the power left after a heavy draw from the battery. Kind of like what you're doing now. It will also show if you have a plate moving that's lose. Not everybody has all the electric meters.

That’s the plan, already made the appointment.
Right now keep the Hulkman jumper in the trunk that I bought for my diesel to get around. The good thing is that I can explain how to reproduce the issue, so they can ultimately troubleshoot and fix the issue. |

Update:
I took my car in this Tuesday and just got it back. It was just a bad battery. It failed the battery diagnosis by the technician and replaced under warranty. |
