What is this?

I recently purchased a 2012 45th Anniversary edition with a L99/Automatic. It has a small box plugged in between the MAP and the block and I have no idea what it is.

Any ideas?

What does the label say? It's almost readable in the 1st picture.

I cant make it out. There is “caution”, xxxxxx Performance, “Do Not Open”. The sticker is so worn I can’t make it out. There are no knobs or anything on the outside of the box.

My guess is a "MAP enhancer" of some sort that is being used to force the car to run leaner to improve gas mileage. However, I never found any images on one that is a simple black box. Look up "MAP Sensor Enhancer". I didn't know that there was such a thing.

Is that a website name under your thumb in the first picture?

It looks like one of those fuel economy enhancers. I would unplug it and throw it in the trash.

Yes, it plugs into where the MAP sensor plugs into on the intake pipe and the wire loom coming off of it goes over and into the block as best I can tell.

I don’t know. It doesn’t look like there’s been much done to it other than a flow master exhaust and this little box. No CAI or any of the obvious mods everyone does.

I popped the case open this weekend and took a look inside.
Just a little chip with lots of goop to keep it from rattling around.

Also, it looks like the two wires that come out of it are actually spliced into the bundle that comes from the MAP and not in line with that cable.

Looks like it's snake oil to me. I'd take it off and test drive. If no changes then dump it.

there was a map mod peeps did a decade ago but for turbos, a zener diode lowers the map signal just enough that it doesn't go into limp mode so your engine gives you more boost...sounds like that's what you got.
