You switching to manual? Switching to an SS 1LE?

ZLEs shine on longer, high speed tracks. If you run 2 -2.5 mile circuits with lots of corners the SS 1LE will have similar lap times if not better. If you look at tracks like Gingerman or Grattan you'll notice tops lap times are SS1LE vs ZLE. On longer tracks with longer straights it's the other way around.

OP, my question would be how do you define "track ready?" All a 1LE needs is pads and brake fluid in my opinion. Or are you talking cage and racing seats?

False Religion my bro. There's is absolutely no scenario where the the SS-1LE outshines the ZL1-1LE in the hands of a professional or the like ..... .on track.

Repent! ...and ye shall be saved!

I respect the data .... of mortals and their respective efforts, but we're discussing the car's capabilities.

Randy Pobst ... an actual Pro was nearly 4 seconds a lap faster at Laguna Seca in a ZLE vs an SS-1LE. Laguna Seca..... a track where you can't even exploit that extra horsepower and a track where he probably has literally 1,000+ more laps.

SS-1LE is no dog. It's not slouch. But the ZL1-1LE is just a bit tidier.

I got duffed up by a WRX at one of my last events. Doesn't mean it's a better car.

That's true. A Pro Driver will be faster in a ZLE. But I doubt many of us here can handle that much power going to the rear wheels and take full advantage of it in all situations. This is why the real world semi-amatuers like us can be faster in a SS1LE on some tracks

While i did not intend the thread to become a zle vs 1le thread, its a bit inevitable that we have to discuss that.

The car set up that i would be after is like what a fellow member has - https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...594295&page=10

(Essentially a ZlE without the supercharger)

I bet his car is faster than a zle except tracks where the straights create an advantage. I dont know the skill levels of drivers involved- but he has the fastest time at ridge in WA significantly better than a zle. If you take his car, add a flex fuel kit and lighten it a bit - thats what i am after…..btw i also now believe that consumables on a 1le are better than zle. Tires wear even and front brakes take less abuse…

I can bet you that 2 -3 secs of that difference were due to 3rs vs 3s. So unless u are randy at a track with 1000+ laps and dont care about the car itself- with 3rs, the outcome will be near equal times…

A few thoughts since I have driven both and have mine modified is somewhat more like NA ZLE. There also a significant difference between an A10 vs M6 as far as acceleration, which is where most of the difference is, once the SS is modified.

- Stock for stock, the ZLE is probably 3 seconds quicker (at least at the track I have been to) mainly because of the acceleration, better tires, brakes and stiffer chassis.

- A lightly modified SS has huge gains and closes the gap significantly. Remember, the ZLE is almost maxed out and needs more HP, less weight or more grip to go quicker. And.....it's a cool weather car and loses some of the HP advantage when the temps are up.

- The ZLE might be a couple hundred pounds heavier, but it feel more than that, especially at pace. That also equals it to being a bit harder to drive at the limit.

My overall feeling is that a modified NA version is ultimately the best way to go for simplicity. Simplicity meaning, less brain space to drive quickly and less time dealing with heat issues, along with grip going away earlier due to the weight and HP. Against a - stock - ZLE M6 at similar lap times, the acceleration difference isn't really too bad...4 car lengths on a 140-150mph straightaway. And, my drivetrain is still 100% stock. A tune, headers, etc would make a big difference.

Ken
