OHHH YEAH!! All of my cars get "christened" there. My favorite was with my 2012 as I planned 4 days in the area and had some REAL fun!!! Highly recommend. Some great roads in that entire area. Moonshiner 28 is killer too.

Do they ever close the road off there just for events?

Up until a couple of years ago, I used to take my bike (R1) there 4-5 times a year. But now it's gotten to be more of a giant speed trap/revenue generation tool than anything. Partially due to the daily crashes/accidents and 2-3 deaths per season, Tenn Hwy Patrol has cracked down HARD on violators. For example, the last time I went (August 2 yrs ago), I was ticketed for 39 in a 35 at 7:15 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The crappy part is that I knew he was there...an oncoming bike flashed and warned me so I slowed down to (what I thought was) an acceptable speed. Nope...he popped me for 4 over. Of course 2 min after I got the ticket this pic was taken...
So...if you go I STRONGLY you urge to: -Go during the week when there's a smaller police presence (and less traffic) -PLEASE stay in your lane. As motorcyclist, I beg all car drivers not to kill us. -Share the road...don't be that guy that has a train of bikes/cars behind them and refuses to pull over and let them pass. It ruins the experience for everyone. -Speed judiciously...the first time you think you're Mario Andretti, the Dragon will promptly remind you that you're not and give you (and your ride) a wicked b!tch-slap to prove it. But yes...the Dragon (and several other nearby roads that are closely held secrets to locals) are fantastic roads to drive/ride.

Yeah...they're called 'accident and coroner cleanups'. Don't think you want to particpate in those events though. :(

There are many roads on the TN/NC/GA border that you can enjoy. Unless you're a thrill seeker, you should just enjoy them safely. Done the tail several times, Hwy 28 and others too, even on the way back from Camarofest this year and Hot Rod Power Tour last year. The road to the Fontana Dam is really cool too and right up there. If you're planning to go to the Gatlinburg show, that would be a good time to do it, as they are all very close from there. That is the weekend of Sept 15th. Make sure to take your camera!
