Barton Shifter

Alrighty....got home from being out of town all week and got it done. I will focus only on the areas of interest.

Remove:

Getting the stock shifter out was pretty easy. Hardest part was getting the shifter out from below. Not much clearance around the driveshaft.

Install:

Getting the Barton shifter pressed in from below can be tough. Took me about 15 minutes to position it correctly so I could press it in from below. It is a very tight fit with the o-rings. Make sure you grease them before install.

The instructions mention loosening the cross-member for the transmission and lowering 1/2". I personally don't feel this was necessary but may help others.

Back in the car, I installed the Barton shifter handle. Very straight forward. Next was the boot and then the shifter knob. I went with the standard SS ball and it is really a beautiful piece. I have found the source of rattle for the shifter. Please see below:

**Source of shifter rattle**
The shift knob is what rattles under acceleration. There are a couple of solutions.

1. Install the lock nut, add some teflon tape about 1/2" above the lock nut, screw the shifter ball down.
2. Use some RTV silicone and coat the threads of the shifter handle after installing the lock nut. Install the shifter ball and lock it down with the nut. Let dry overnight.
3. Use the stock shifter handle.

The dynamat some folks are using is just masking the real problem. My recommendation for Barton would be to install a nylon nut in the bottom of the shifter ball/grip.

Impression:

This product screams quality. It is outstanding in design and really is a work of art. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

No better Shifter, service and economics. Just switched over to the flat stick and the comment from people passing by has increased 2 fold !

Just put mine on this weekend, well Slim SS put it in for me but I watched , Love it so far, feel and looks!! Side note, if any one is thinking of getting this or any other shifter and exhaust cut outs, id recomend putting the shifter in first, kinda made it cramped trying to work up there under the car with the cut outs in!

i installed my barton with the flat stick and love it, but it did chatter a bit in 2nd and 3rd under mid to WOT. I havent done the dynamat yet but i thought i would share what i have done and it took 75% of the chatter away. i took some regular grey silicone and put it on the threads of the shifter and a little inside the flatstick. i took it for a drive right after putting the silicone in and it didnt seem to help alot, but after it dried i have almost no chatter anymore.
