QTP CUTOUT ISSUES.

Hey guys, Happy Fathers Day to all you dads out there, hope you have a great day ! Well I'm having issues with my QTP's and am at a loss as to what to do next, except to call them and see if they will send me a new set of wires for them. They work great, when they are working, but about a week ago they quit working after one time I ran with them open, I was able to close them fine and then the next time a few days later, they would not open, either one of them. So we put the Camaro on the lift and checked everything, even though my friend that installed them put shrink tubing around the connectors, the one from the power harness came disconnected just enough to make them not work, got them working again.
Several days went by worked fine, had them open for a bit and closed them when I got to where I was going, closed fine, came back out to leave, went to open them and now the passenger side would not open !! What the heck! The connectors have a twist lock on them, and we shrink tubed them and they still vibrate lose. Any ideas or suggestions at this point? Have any of you had this issues and what did you do to remedy it. Thanks in advance..

Happy Fathers Day to you as well. I would definitely call them and see if they will replace it. Didn’t you just install them within the last few months?

Happy Fathers Day to you!

Personally, I'd just replace their connectors with a either a couple of spade connectors, or I'd order a weather-pack connector and use that instead. Either one will still allow for easy disconnection when needed.

Hey thanks sir. Yea we just installed them last month. I'm going to call them tomorrow. I understand they stand behind their stuff, so we'll see.

Thanks sir.Yea I was thinking the same thing, get some better connectors that actually LOCK together that way they won't vibrate loose. Thanks guys. Appreciate it.

Just took mine off. Drivers side was fine. Passengers side had apparently been riding on the pipes and was melted together. Ugh

Guess I’ll see if qtp sells the connectors separately. Otherwise I’ll source another type of plug.

Yes I did, this is what he said,,,,"hmmmm never had that issue before, those connectors have a twistlock collar on them to make sure they are connected, I said yea we knew that, also the pins are gold plated for a good connection, and that we didn't have to shrink wrap them as they are weather proof. He also said maybe a pin might be bad to check all of them and let him know."... Didn't even offer to send a new set of cables, that's what I wanted him to do since it happened twice at different locations, but oh well, going to put the car up on the lift tomorrow and check it out 1 more time..

is there a place close that you can punch a small hole for a ty wrap for support? I'm an electrician and hate hanging or tight wires they just invite problems. look it over real good and see if you can add some slack to run the extra wire to a point of support and don't be stingee with the shrink tube you can route it to where you're safe then heat shrink it and it will form to where you want it. using a heat gun is a great way to shrink without burning the areas around it conductors.

Don’t know if I’ll use them on the turbo, but I can swap it before selling.

You're welcome. I just ordered a new set for myself so I can replace the ones I am having problems with. I figured if QTP didn't want to offer me a replacement set, then for 52 bucks for the set, just order them !! Haven't had time to get the Camaro back on the lift yet to check the connectors again, so I figured when I do get time, just replace them since it will be up..

Well we finally got my Camaro up on the lift today to see what was up with my passenger side not working. When we pulled the connectors apart at the actuator and checked the pins and sockets found that on the connector to the actuator the connectors are female and the cable end from the switch is male pins. Found that 1 of the female connectors had moved over in the hole, yea there is a little wiggle room in it, and when we inserted the male end into the connector the pin went BESIDE the connector and not into it, therefore having connection until it vibrated away from the connector and lost contact and stopped working. We straightened out the insert and re inserted the male end making sure they both went into the female connector properly and now they seem to work better than they did before. So go figure, something little like that can mess things up. So if any of you guys ever have trouble, check the pins and connectors.. Cheers..
