what they sell for and what they are worth at trade in are 2 different numbers, the offer sounds fair for a car that will hit the lot for 10k remember you bought the v6 because it was cheap it is even cheaper when they are on the used car lot.

Very badly. KBB dealer trade in value (wholesale) is right what you are thinking. If you click on a dealer price or private party value they will be significantly higher. The fact that they're offering you $6k is a joke unless you have a salvage title or significant rebuild info on your carfax.

I didn’t buy the V6 only becuase it was “cheaper” I bought it becuase I didn’t need V8 for my everyday commute. I got my car with about 40k on the odometer...a year and a half later I’ve put 65k on it..And haven’t had any major mechanical issues. As I satated before “I’m fully aware that my car isn’t car an SS or LT”. So I knew the resale value wasn’t gonna be more than 14-15k.

Nope! Car has a clean history. So I don’t understand why they gave me such a low offer. Wife said “Might as well keep it since there isn’t anything wrong with it”.

Smart woman. You might be able to get more along what you're looking for selling it private party and then go to a different dealership than these crooks and buy the newer one you want.

Did you "Parachute" your trade-in ? I.E. if you spent all morning negotiating your final number, by the end of the conversation the dealership has zeroed in on their expected sale price & profit on the sale. If you held back on the trade-in until the end they may have low balled you on the offer to prevent them from having to re-negotiate (increase) the sales price. Just a thought....

If that's all you can get I would keep it for sure. Just curious what you payed for the car used and how much difference from that amount to the trade in value offered now if that's okay to ask? 6k seems insanely low to me & I expect it would be a costly loss from when you bought the car?

The whole deal needs to be evaluated, not just the # on the trade in.

Agreed!

Dealing with the public is not always the easiest thing to do. I literally had a guy offer me cash, chickens, and free maid service! At that point I went to CarMax. It was a Toyota Sienna and was the last year of the body style and tons of callers wanted the newer style which made it harder to sell.

1 year ago I got offers of 12k & 12.5k for my 2010 2LT RS w/ 65k on it, from 2 different Chevy dealers, one of the sight unseen. The dealer had it in inventory for 15k after. 6k sounds like a mugging IMO, but I don't this often so I'm not an authority.

Lowball.

Nada rough trade in around me 10k. IMO see another dealer If you got the price of the new car in writing most dealers will match it.

Dealership is in the business of making money. They will never give you what your car is worth. There's no money to be made there. You trade your vehicle into a dealer to make things easy on you. You've passed the burden of selling the old car to them. And you walk away with a new vehicle without very much effort or thought needed. It is what it is.
