AFM Valves Closing and Exhaust Flow
Does anyone have a picture of what the actual AFM exhaust valves look like?
My question is when the car goes into V4 mode and the AFM valves close, how does the exhaust exit the car? |

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the inside, although I believe it is the same part as the rear NPP valve. Although the actual butterfly valve on the AFM valve may be different, I would imagine it may have perforations in it or maybe a slight hole, as I don't think they would design it to completely block off flow. I know they do a good job of silencing the exhaust. The problem is they don't transition good enough so when the open and close when AFM activates and deactivates you definitely notice it. |

They close fully. The valves have holes in them so the exhaust can pass through once they’re closed.

Think of a bolt washer, it has a hole in the middle. When V4 mode kicks in it closes so the sound waves are reflected back but exhaust gases exit.

Check out this post: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=507367 Little further into the thread has the picture you're looking for. The valves close fully but there's a hole in the plate where it breathes. |

You can use a scan tool and force the AFM valves closed, then you will see how much of a restriction they do make, the car will barely shift at WOT, and it screws up the torque model and makes the shifts off.
