The domino effect - New C8 Corvette

Well with a new mid engine corvette w/ 6.2 V8 - 500 HP and a < 3 sec 0 to 60 - as well as a starting price of 60k

I think the C7 Z06 / ZR1 will come down in price and a lot of camaro owners will trade in their cars for the better priced C7 Z06 / Z06 or the new C8

I think chevy hit a home run with the new C8 - excited to see more - still love my ZLE- but I'm getting the itch

Just hate the fact that these new cars don't have manuals anymore

It's gonna be hard to beat the new setup . Weight distribution more toward the rear is gonna be a major factor in the performance.. I have a c7 stingray that is only 430 to the wheels and it is a blast to drive..

I watched the reveal last night as well. Nice looking car, performance looks good.

But, I won't buy one until they offer a manual. Sports cars should have a manual option...

I like the redesign too but I’m afraid that the days of the manual trans in a Corvette are gone forever! Don’t you think if they were going to build one Chevy would have said so? It wouldn’t surprise me if the next gen 7 Camaro will have just have a DCT Auto trans too! That is if a gen7 Camaro will be built.

In reality, what just happened was GM just made every other PERFORMANCE Front Engine Rear Drive Auto irrelevant.
This was the Performance Revolution that Zora dreamed of, and with a 1st year Base Model, they just threw down sub 3 second zero to sixty, a Z51 that will probably outhandle most cars on the road, and at a low starting price point!
I will own the Zora, or whatever they call the BEAST!

I agree and I am sure they will. I have never wanted to buy a vette until now.

Well there is an entire world beyond the numbers on paper. And in that world, many people are going to prefer the C7 Zs over this new C8. I doubt anyone will trade a ZR1 for anything less than a C8 Z. You'll see mainly Stingrays, SS Camaros, ZL1s, and possibly a handful of 15-17 Z06s getting traded in. But I doubt it will be such a mass Exodus that people think it will be. ZL1s and Z06s aren't just gonna be sitting on lots left to rot.

Performance-wise, all we know is that GM claims the only thing faster will be the C7 ZR1. That is 0-60 tho. Beyond 60, I bet a ZL1 or C7 Z06 or C6 ZR1 will gun that thing down very quick because forced induction. Sure the C8 is very well developed and has the rear engine design. But it is still down by a LOT of HP. The design is going to get it off it's feet very fast and it'll grab the lead. But when those blowers hit full boost and any traction advantage is negated due to higher speeds, then the Z boys will catch up and take over from there. So for those who desire the thrill of top end pulls, roll racing, top speed, etc, the Zs will be preferable.

Personally I plan to get one. But I changed my mind on trading either of my current cars in to get one. I figure that by the time the C8 Z06 is available I'll be able to walk off with one of those fully loaded. So I think I will wait.

Not me, but copied & pasted.

Kids, ladies, gents: the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. For more info than you can imagine, hit the link in my bio. I spend about 3 hours with a few C8s yesterday and here’s what stands out: Looks great. Definitely a Corvette. Definitely mid-engine. Well done on the (still plastic/composite) exterior. Lots of colors and wheels are available. The interior is a big step up and I think looks like a rocket ship. A rocket ship from Michigan, but still. The 6.2-liter NA V-8 is now called LT2, and if you opt for the sport exhaust it makes 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. No clue what it makes without. The LT2 engine is dry sumped and sits hella low in the aluminum chassis. The tops of the valve covers are lower than the tops of the 20” rear tires. Haven’t seen that since the Lexus LFA. Fronts are 19s. 0-60 will be 2.8 seconds. Will pull over 1.0 g on all-season tires!! The only transmission is a co-developed with Tremec 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle. Also super, duper low in the chassis. I do not think there will ever be a manual. First gear is just for launches. Gears 2-6 are tightly spaced and what you’d use on a track. 7 and 8 are tall, highway, overdrive gears. The composite transverse leafsprings are gone. Two A-arms are at each corner, with dampers and springs. Two key points. This is the base-car. Power will be going way up. Plenty of room for a supercharger. Even a Big Ass Supercharger. Meaning 755 horsepower. I’m guessing they’ll call that car Zora. Second, the base car starts at less than $60K. Yup. Now, the one you want is probably $70-$75K, but that’s still less than an M4. I give C8 a solid thumbs up. You? #chevrolet #corvette #c8 #midenginecorvette #zora @chevroletperformance @chevrolet

1st year production cars are always filled with gremlins. I love the look, but I am going to wait until year 3.

Sometimes the 1st year is the best year. You never know.

If you could name one example of that being true, you’ll be ahead of me. I can’t think of one instance where that is true.
