'14 Camaro meets Electrical Pole

Monday my husband (twoblindsheep on the forums) and I were driving in the rain and fog at night. He was driving, didn't know the road and it's notorious for it's twists and sharp turns and it didn't help that the area isn't lit. We took a turn too fast, car lost traction. In every effort to slow the vehicle, he downshifted to third gear, as the car was sliding into the ditch the clutch stuck to the floor (as it has done before on several occasions and has been mentioned to the local dealership), the brakes went soft, the e-brake was pulled in an intense effort to slow the vehicle. When the first impact was made into the ditch, all 4 curtain airbags deployed. After the second head on impact (at about 42mph) into the electrical pole, the driver's side airbag deployed, however, the passenger side airbag did not even though it had an occupant. I have notified Chevrolet and waiting for a return call as well as filed a complaint with ODI-NHTSA. Wondering where the airbag sensors are on the front? What do you guys think?

I'm glad everyone is ok. I hope you're not offended but if I may ask: he was on a notoriously windy road that he is unfamiliar with, at night, in rain and fog, and downshifted to 3rd and used the e-break and only got down to ~42 miles an hour before meeting the pole? How fast were you going when you lost traction?

And yes, I think the passenger side airbag should certainly have deployed. Now I'm nervous about mine - I kinda like my fiance ya know? Wouldn't mind keeping her around.

Dos this model have the weight requirement for the passenger side? If it was set will it turn off if the weight is no longer there? Maybe it detected no weight while you were into the belt and turned off? That would be seriously messed up.

A quick Google showed gm has had issues with passenger side airbags. (Not related to camaro line)

Never ever do this when going into a skid or while losing traction. Push in the clutch and try to regain control through steering and braking (yes both feet will be in use).

Obvious driver error...good luck.

Glad your OK! But remember insurance companies can read to and in your post you made some statements that could be considered you admitting fault. Just my 2 cents and sorry about the car.

AGAIN, I have no asked for opinions or input on how to properly operate a vehicle or what should have happened. Please re-read if you're genuinely trying to help.

Thanks.

Thank ya, I'm aware and hind-sight is 20/20. However, with everything that happened, I have nothing to hide or try to pull one over on the insurance company = fraud. Not about that. =/ Just trying to see where others have had the same issue clutch/brakes/ possibly with airbag.. Airbags are so advanced now it's unsure as to whether it should have deployed or not. GM will be out within a week to do an investigation.
