Camaro meets pole, passenger airbag doesn't deploy.... -_-
Monday my husband (twoblindsheep on the forums) and I were driving in the rain and fog at night. He was driving, didn't know the road and it's notorious for it's twists and sharp turns and it didn't help that the area isn't lit. We took a turn too fast, car lost traction. In every effort to slow the vehicle, he downshifted to third gear, as the car was sliding into the ditch the clutch stuck to the floor (as it has done before on several occasions and has been mentioned to the local dealership), the brakes went soft, the e-brake was pulled in an intense effort to slow the vehicle. When the first impact was made into the ditch, all 4 curtain airbags deployed. After the second head on impact (at about 42mph) into the electrical pole, the driver's side airbag deployed, however, the passenger side airbag did not even though it had an occupant. I have notified Chevrolet and waiting for a return call as well as filed a complaint with ODI-NHTSA. Wondering where the airbag sensors are on the front? What do you guys think?

To me it looks totaled and from what your saying no one was hurt and your especially lucky since the drivers side airbag didnt deploy....Could have been worse all the way around.

Sounds like someone was driving too fast in crappy weather.. Second impact at 42mph when you hit the pole?
Glad you guys are okay, I have nothing on the airbag, it should have deployed if you were sitting in the seat..

Yes, he didn't know the road, that turn is an especially bad one.. he isn't used to how my car handles, we actually made the turn then went off our side of the road, hit the ditch and slid about 75yards.. i'll post pics of the crash site.

It doesn't look good
The black box will tell them ( Homever they are ) all the info about what happen , speed , angle , what / & what the driver did after the moment the car lock the wheels until the final impact But no , it doesn't look any good Just wait and see what they come up with , then take a refreshed look into what really happen , and only then , and if asked polictilly answer any question , be carefull with what you say when hotheaded ! |

Glad everyone is ok. Have you noticed at any time the passenger sensor said off when you were sitting in the seat? I know people have had issues with the passenger seat sensor not working or taking too much weight to activate it.
Would it have been possible also when you had the side impact you came out of the seat just enough to deactivate the passenger air bag? The black box info may show if it deactivated after the first impact.

That sucks! Glad you're both okay! Take it a little easier on wet road though.

Glad that you both are okay. That sounded like it was one heck of a bad crash. Wish you luck in talking to GM about it and that is a major safety hazard that the airbag didn't deploy.
Must say the car absorbed impact and held together pretty well.
