Road to 500 RWHP
Hello all! I know there are many threads on this topic, but I was hoping for some personalized feedback. I have a 2011 L99 with the following modifications already done:
Stainless works long tube headers SLP X pipe exhaust BBK CAI My current goal is to reach 500 rwhp without forced induction. What should my next few steps be?

For 500 on an L99 prob head/cam, maybe cam/e85, maybe low lash cam setup

Its going to cost a lot of money to get an L99 there NA. You are going to need every bolt on including heads and cam. And with a big cam to make that power, you are going to need a torque converter. And then you have t pray that the dyno you use is generous instead of stingy.
Just get a stage 2 cam kit and be happy with your 440-460rwhp.

Not trying to thread jack, but what would a LS3 need? Already have long tubes, catless, and cai.

Made 485 with heads/cam/e85. All Dynos are different so maybe you can find a happy one.

Hey that's close enough for me I'm not looking to have the dyno sheet say exactly 500 just wanna get in the ballpark of high hp non forced induction.

Well LS3's come with about 360-370ish rwhp stock I think you'd already be fairly close with what you have

Nah, I think he is gonna need a cam and tune as well. Not as close as you think, although I wish it were that easy

Lots of stickers (the 5hp ones) and a catch can should do it.. ..
Seriously.. interested in the same and know it will be close but maybe not quite.. 480ish is pretty dam close.. If you have ever operated a vehicle with that kind of power the grin will cover the balance of the 20.. Not sure heads are worth the extra but if you really want to get there that could just do it.. Keep us posted. Don't worry too much about a number.. You will be happy unless you go FI and break open the checkbook for real..

My suggestion is to just give up the desire to be NA and go FI. From the cars I've ridden in, research I've done (specific to this car) and the vette I built back in the mid 2000's - FI is the way to go.
Every car I've ever seen with a big cam always loses 2-3mpg. After I installed the cam in my vette I went from averaging 27mpg on the hwy to around 22. I swapped that out for a blower friendly cam and installed a Vortech setup and went back up to 26mpg. That wasn't the deciding factor in why I made the swap but it was a nice perk. Drivaility is so much better with a mild cam and FI too. While big cams sound sexy as hell they become a real pain in the ass around town. Doing one on an automatic car is, IMO, even more of a pain. |

Stroker kit is gonna be required ... for every ci you can expect 1 - 1.5hp.
Installing a 416ci stroker on our stock 396ci (I think??) would give you a solid 20-25rwhp... also allow for a really big cam, easily push you over the 500rwhp goal N/A you're looking for. |
