3.91 gears questions
I'm planning on having 3.91 gears installed on my car once I know we won't have any more rain (hopefully soon). I saw the gears on phastek for $309.95, and the install kit for another $200. Do I need the install kit? What does it do? How much should I expect to pay for labor? Will it improve my 0-60, and by how much? Thanks for your input everyone

Do your self a favor and avoid after market gears, GM gears are nominal and chances of winding up with a howler are greatly reduced.....

Can't speak for 0-60 as I haven't measured. Seat of the pants is definite.
Not sure if the Phastek kit comes with the speedometer recal code or not either. The GM kit comes with one or if you get it through Janetty apparently he can do it as well. Cheapest route is to buy the gears and install yourself. If you can't, then pull the pumpkin and take it tome someone to install and put the pumpkin back in yourself. If you can't do that either, the dealer is going to cost you $1500 or so for everything.

It's not hard to pull the pumpkin and take it someone. Just make sure they set the preload to spec and the backlash is good.

the kit is for the new bolts sometimes needed for the differential and the shims that are necessary to install to adjust it just right also new bearings are good, as is a LPW diff cover and poly bushings for the diff at least with the rear.

I just had a shop give me a quote and they said with my mileage, 59k, I might want to do the bearings as well. What bearings is he talking about? All I see in this kit are shims/spacers and a crush sleeve.
