Racestar 17x10.5 92 Drag Star

Does anyone know how a Hoosier 315/35/17 would fit on a RaceStar 17x10.5 92-705253DSD? I believe the wheel has a 7" BS. Concerned about rubbing.

saw these wheel on summit/jegs....also very interested on whether they'd be a good choice over the 9.5 width version.

I use that tire on the 9.5 wide race star with 6 bs and no issues

Its interesting that Hoosier has a recommended wheel size of 9-11" and MT ET Street R specifies 10.5-12.5". I really want a 26" tire, so am also considering 275/40/17. Unfortunately being an M6 car, a bias ply would be better, but I do not see any made in 26" size for a 17" wheel.

Right now I'm torn between those ones (the 9.5 width w/ 6 bs and the 10.5 width with 7 bs).

I haven't seen anyone on here really mentioning the 10.5 width racestars and I'm not a wheel guy and also I've only had my car a few months so I'm still a little green on what will likely fit.

Its a difficult choice picking tires. I suspect the MT Street R may have little more longevity, especially if you are driving much of a distance to and from the track, however the Hoosiers weigh less and that probably effects their life. I am starting to think that getting the narrower width of the 275 might be better choice provided it hooks ok, but I do not plan to be launching too hard to avoid breakage.

On the wheels, I suspect the 6" BS might put the tires out closer to the fender, but if you are not lowered I would think they would be alright. 7" BS should pull the tire more inside the fender well and I would imagine there would be no rubbing with a 26" tire for either of these BS. At least that is my assumption, but I could be wrong. Just would hate to experiment and make a mistake.

By the way, I already bought the 10.5x17 RaceStars because the price was right.

I am running the 10.5×17 race stars with the MICKEY THOMPSON ET STREET S/S RADIAL TIRE P305/45R17. No issues with rubbing. Posted a video a while back in my member journal. I have considered trying 315s next but not sure how they will fit. Let me know how it works if you decide to give it a try.

That's another thing I have to figure out is tire diameter for what I'm going with on my car (basically just full bolt ons) ...Not sure if a 26 or 28 would be better for that. I may end up having to do some experimenting.

It seems the Hoosiers radials are only available in ~26" height whereas there's plenty of choices with the Mickeys in both the S/S and R tires for 26 or 28s...I may be missing something though. I haven't even looked at bias ply bc I'm A8 and the drag radials should be plenty for my power level...

Either way, props for trying out those wheels, let us know how they work out for you after you get them mounted up! I'd love to go with the wider wheels if they will fit but like I said still unsure on whether the 26 or 28 would be better for a bolt on car trapping high 110s maybe 120 on a good day. If it ends up being the 28 working better for me then I'd have to make sure theyd fit under the car with the 10.5 wheels.

Sorry for kinda hijacking...just trying to get some info bc I saw these wheels and haven't found much info on them out there yet...

Welp, there's my answer then. Thanks for the info!

I picked up about .1 and 2mph from just switching to the hoosier 315/35/17 over the mickey Thompson 305/45/17. I am 100% certain a 26 inch drag setup is faster with bolt on cars.

The hoosiers are over 2 inches shorter and a decent amount lighter than the mickeys. They both hook great.

The improved gearing from the shorter tire as well as reduced rotating mass is a win win. Just make sure you need to get 26 tall front wheels/tires to match a 26 rear or your abs system will throw codes/you will have issues

Good info.

I was unsure because I was reading this thread awhile back and it had a ton of good input but as usual I came out of it with more questions than answers . My main concern regarding tire height for the drag wheels was which gear I would be going through the traps and at what RPM. As Pray said in that thread you don't want to be shifting right before the traps. I wasn't sure if the 26's would put me in that situation.

In terms of diameters front to back, keep them within ~ 1" of each other and you should be good. On my 1LE, the front tires are 26.8", so I think 26" rears will not create problems. I am not planning to go with a full drag pack, but who knows for sure.

The 315/35/17 Hoosier with stock SS fronts will cause an issue. But yeh I’ve heard within 1 inch as well

Even stock cars shift into 5th near the line. A bolt on car trapping 120+ is going to cross in 5th either way. The shorter tire will just help you pull it better

I ran both extensively on the same tracks and similar conditions with same mods. The 26 is faster

I believe stock SS fronts are 27.7", so definitely would be an issue running 26" DRs. What are you running on the front and do you know how much weight the drag pack took off?
