Since don't drag race here, the only reason that personally would switch from a manual here would be if someday GM would offer an M type Dual Clutch Transmission. Also at a much lower price than what in costs in an M Car ($2500 and up) best of both worlds imho.

I think that for the most part manual's will be phased out. As far as sports cars, very few are still manuals these days.

But, do you typically ask people at random if their car is a stick?

Do you think others will follow suite? Do you think GM will ever produce an automatic only Vette , or do you think they'll have an option for the manual so they can still cater to enthusiasts?

It's a good question since enthusiasts , like those of Lamborghini and Ferrari, will in essence be left out to dry simply because the times are changing.

It's a very relevant question on this site since we're all enthusiasts by the very definition of the word. Therefore, I think some people here are going to have strong opinions on the subject.

Thanks,

Danny.
I don't know what to say about these high end novelty vehicles other than most people with these cars probably never use 50% of their performance capabilities, and probably can't even drive stick anyway. So, perhaps a good move for these overpriced tools.

For the rest of us that aren't simly interested in driving in a straight line to beat a record, I'd say any smart automaker would maintain a manual shifting version of their high performance vehicles.

I would not consider buying a Camaro, or Vette in an automatic because I want to up / downshift using a true stick shift not this manumatic / paddle garbage on eurasian cars.

In the US, we've already seen that many passenger cars are no longer offered with a manual transmission. It's only the sporty cars that still offer them. I think that trend will continue, but as long as there are enough buyers who prefer a manual, they will sell them. It's all about the market.

Outside the US, buyers want manuals and dislike autos. So if you ask the question globally, will the manual transmission go away? NO. The US is the only country I know of where the auto is preferred.

There will be always a option for manual. But Now though when it comes to performance the auto is just as good and will only become better then the manual. The computers are just to good. Soon enough they will be made to out shift any manual by just leaving it in drive with your foot on the floor. I have beating many manual cars with my a4 z28. Most people cant shift good enough to beat my computer. Corvette drivers are a good example. Me and my dad smacked one in our 06 GT. He got off the line like an idiot

there's already a pretty good consensus that an auto is quicker for drag racing. we're talking about everything else now
