WHEEL HOPE ISSUE RESOLVED!!!!!!!

OK I am not a auto engineer but I definitely did not feel that my wheel hop was normal. After seeing other people w the same issue and then seeing a guy that owns a c5 on another fourm say That's normal, I assumed it was. So I took my z51 2lt in the shop for a paint issue and some other stuff when I got a call about a TSB and the ELSD fluid possibly being low, and it was, Tech said that many cars are and that they left BG that way by mistake. Got my car back today happy as can be, pulled in the drive way and something was missing......NO HOP, so I backed up and down 10 times its gone..... let me tell you guys w the z51 my vin is 1077 and if you own a z51 and your vin is lower than 4000 I would be concerned.......I hope this helps you guys out there I know the car can turn tight now feels so much better, Now I hope that the 800 miles I drove on the car w low fluid didn't cause any premature damage........I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.....

What problem is this? Mine makes a wheel jerking sensation when I turn the wheel backing out of the driveway.

Do you have a z51? If yes than get your fluids checked...almost feels like it's shakey. That's how mine felt.

I also have wheel hop

I have a premiere edition number 203 off assembly line. I know the front tire skidding during slow parking hard turns is normal due to the wheelbase and size of the tires. I have noticed that at initial start up in slightly cool weather, around 50 degrees outside or less, if I accelerate hard in first gear I notice wheel hop. Almost as if the tires cannot grip the pavement as if they are jumping or riding over closely spaced bumps. I have read this May be due to the tires not being up to temperature and also possible low differential fluid level. This does not occur in second gear with hard acceleration. I don' t have many miles on car and have not tested the tire warmth issue. Does anyone have any input or experience with this? Should I simply test the warm tire theory? Is some wheel hop normal? I will have diff fluid level checked but was wondering others experience. Thanks in advance!

THE diff fluid, this is a new TSB but I believe GM knows that some of Z51s are low on it and its my understanding that they will notify customers also they said I had to wait till feb for radio fix. That being said I went for another drive tonight and I cant get my car to do any... wheel hop and before if you went to pull in a parking spot, or went to turn in driveway or cul-de-sac,it was loud and shakey, that's the best I can describe..

I'm not discounting the eLSD fluid issue, but if anyone is experiencing "chatter" or "skipping" from the tires, especially the fronts, bear this in mind: the factory tires are SUMMER ONLY. They are not intended to be driven when outside temperatures are below 40 degrees. The tire compounds "stiffen" considerably in lower temperatures, and will NOT have anywhere near the traction you would have in warmer conditions. Chevrolet says that explicitly in the owner's manual. Killascrimp, you probably won't experience this much in Florida, but many of us further north will.

I've noticed this a number of times here in St. Louis the past couple of weeks. We've had a couple of mornings in the teens, and it was a moderate challenge to pull away from stop lights with out spinning the tires every time. I am looking into getting a set of high-performance all-season tires soon, as the Stingray is my daily driver.

And as my Z51 is #196, I will touch base with my dealer ASAP on the fluid, just to be safe!

Mine does the same thing. . . I have about 500 miles on it and received it around Oct. 5th. . .Backing out the drive way and making sharp turns causes the wheel pop in my vet. . .Feels like a flat tire, going over multiple speeds bumps, feels like it's slipping on uneven gravel with big rocks on the road. . .

My wheel hop is with sharp turns only. . .Backing out of parking spaces, turning in circle drive ways. I live down in Houston TX, so cold temps are not the cause for mine. . .

Same issue here, pretty annoying. people I give rides to are like "oh my gosh what was that!!!". My car was just built in February so I don't think it's fluids.

That is interesting. Chevy puts on a $3200.00 price increase but has not addressed a problem that has been prevalent since the beginning of production.

This must be an older thread because there has been much talk about how the Corvette was forgoing the Ackermann steering geometry to improve the top end performance.
