You can sell the car. I'm not sure about other states but in Texas, you can't really trade in a lease as you don't own it.

I vaguely remember back in the mid to late 90's there was such a 'club' in the boring Chicago suburb where I grew up. I think they owned a Viper and maybe another car and you paid dues to reserve and drive them. I was young and broke at the time and could only dream of driving cool cars like this.

While you're right that you can't actually "trade in" something you don't own (anywhere), the process essentially turns into you buying out the lease (with their money) and then the dealership taking ownership via the trade. It could lengthen to sales process overall in some situations, but there are definitely ways to make it happen.

Yes, like I said earlier, you just get a payoff on lease. The dealer makes an offer to buy it back. I made out with 8k cash turning in my lease a year early, due to the low inventory around here. Most dealers have no new cars on the lot and they are selling the used ones for same or more than a new car.

Make sure you call the Leasing company for that payoff. If you go through the dealer the numbers can become fuzzy.

If it's a GM Financial lease, the payoff is available in the app. I leased my Colorado and I can buy it at anytime from GM. The payoff number goes down each month after I make a payment.

GM Financial is one of many lenders that is not allowing 3rd party lease buyouts. You can either buy out the lease yourself, or a cooperative GM dealer can do it.

A GM dealer would not necessarily be considered third party. As far as buying out yourself, that's exactly what I was saying.

Long story short, I need to get into a truck. Has anyone else had this situation come up? What are my options to release myself from this lease so I can swap into a truck lease instead?

TIA!
I had to go into my Camaro to my truck, wish I had the Camaro back for the gas. Averaging 23-24 vs 14-15 is not fun at the pump
