Cool Bolt on Mod Path

Hey Guys,

Just hopped in a zl1 from a full bolt on SS. I’m wanting to piece together a mod list for spring/summer to hit the drag strip with. Phase 1 of my build will be bolt ons. Car will be on a full drag pack and will have the a10 tuned

List:

Rotofab Big Gulp
Nw 103
Ported Blower
Catless 2 inch headers
MM wild
Flex fuel sensor e50
ATI underdrive pulley.
(Upper or lower) ??

If anyone has experience with these mods and knows what it will make power wise/what kind of ET I can expect that would be great. Feel free to chime in if you think anything else is needed.

Cheers

Your gonna need to look into at least a low side fuel pump voltage booster even with E50. My car is very similar to this but i have a stock ported TB and my blower is not ported. I would go with a lower pulley, the upper tends to lead to more belt slip. My car dyno'd at 677RWHP and it ran a 10.10 at 136 MPH on a negative DA day. During the summer it ran anywhere from 10.50's to 10.30's IAT's are going to be an issue as well... I am installing a larger heat exchanger and a expansion tank that I can add ice too so I can keep IAT's in check.

I would go with a lower as well, more usable power and no worries about belt slippage. I think a big gulp is over kill, you’d be fine with a regular roto fab. Make sure your tune is both a dyno and street tune, not dyno only. Should be a beast!

Personally, I wouldn't waste any money on the stock blower. Get a 2650 eForce or maggie.

What are your end WHP goals?

All besides the 2650 is bone stock down to the air filter.

Will definitely look into the voltage booster, I agree. Those are great numbers/times. Was thinking about possibly leaving the pulley swap out to keep the IATs in check. Plenty of power to be had on stock boost as long as restrictions opened up in front.

Eventually this will be a heads/cam car. End goal is to do the fuel system and keep the stock blower. When all said and done hopefully we can squeeze 900 wheel out of it. Definitely want to break into 9s with the 1.7L lol

You have to weigh the cost of how much money you are dumping into making yours a blow dryer by over spinning it. The 2650 will support all that HP without issue and barely break a sweat.

MTI in Houston did one trying to break the stock blower record hp I believe he hit 914rwhp when I asked my friend what he spent I was shocked he spent about 6k more than me and is maxed out blower and fuel. I'm at 1044 and not even close to maxed out on blower and fuel. we ran together on a pull he used 3rd I used 4th from a 50 we were dead even. I would rethink spending that coin only to be at the limit.. also maybe you don't want more hp but it would be a lot easier on the car/build if your using 60% of what it can do vs 120% over what it was designed for.

Totally agree with you and gotswap. I wasn’t ruling out a 2650. I’d just prefer to get one after the head/cam combo. It is way safer/efficient to make bigger power with that blower over the stock 1.7. That is down the road though, most important thing for me next season is the supporting bolt on mods for h/c and eventually a larger blower. Thanks

Count me in as a vote for 2650 path. I am probably going to do my build in two stages.
1st - Cam, Heads, 2" Headers, Katech Oil Pump Swap, Catch Can, Tune.
2nd - 2650, 103mm TB, Big Gulp and another tune.
Or maybe I'll do it all at once let's see how 2021 starts off
I personally would rather not have to ever worry about overheating the 1.7 blower/engine. that's just my personal plan & thoughts.

Sounds like a sweet plan I wish I had the funds to do the heads cam off the bat..have to stick with bolt ons unfortunately

well, ideally I just want to go the 2650 route right away but I am so nervous (self admittedly maybe too nervous) about the oil pump failing with a voided warranty. My warranty ends 4/2022 so next winter is the target date for the build. plenty of time to save up. I did straight bolt-on's when I had my 2013 ZL1 and she was an absolute monster. No doubt you can do the same with our 6th gen ZL1's. lots of ways to make our cars faster
