I really don't think tire was the cause because mine did the same thing on the drag strip with stock tires.

So quick update. Made a bit of a discovery accidently.

I was already coming to the end of the life of my Cup2s up front, and I corded them quicker then I thought. So in a pinch I bought some RE71Rs for the front (planning on going V720 ACR tires out back once they're back in stock)

But tramlining is deff part of the problem, and my alignment might have shifted as well so I'm going to check it but the tires are without a doubt part of the issue.

Now the rear end might squirm ever so slightly. but it's just not at all terrifying any more. I think what was happening was that the rear was tramlining, and then when you put a little input into the wheel the front would tramline as well, making the whole car feel like it was all over the road.

With the front's no longer tramlining, the car all of a sudden magically is much much more settled. Like 75-80% better.

Surprised, so I'll be checking alignment to make sure there are no changes there as well, but I can say from this that tire choice can certainly exacerbate this issue.

So I think eventually as a community we'll figure out that if you have X brand tires, likely you'll want a different alignment, then another brand of tires.

Funny enough the Re71's up front are MUCH more stable then the Cup2s. They feel more numb in Auto-X style maneuvers. But ripping up the backroads the other day they set into a corner and inspire confidence mid corner. So I'm not sure they're the most responsive tire, but it this case, a less manic nature actually helped the situation.

I align my car every 2000 miles, and it is always out of spec.

Does that include replacing the rear alignment bolts?

If you have to align your car every 2,000 miles...you sir, have a mechanical problem.

I don't think so. It does not feel out of alignment, but I purchased lifetime alignment from Firestone, so there is literally no downside to bringing it in. It costs me nothing.

But every time I take it in, it is out of spec by a little bit. And I have a full BMR suspension setup.

A set of BMR toe arms might be a good idea. You can lock them in and not loosen the one time use bolts every time. That might be your problem since you haven’t been replacing the bolts you said.

I had the toe rods installed this summer for that very reason. The toe moved only a little bit since installation.

I actually brought the bolts to Firestone last week to have them installed, but they didn't quite get the message, and did not install them for some reason, though they did the alignment. Next time I have the car aligned, I will be more clear and have the bolts put in.

Here are the before and after measurements. Not out a bunch, but enough that free alignment is worth it. This is after about 2200 miles.

Would the following thread have anything to do with this thread? It seems to answer the issues you all are having with rear end alignment going on the blink.

Yes it would. I think this car, with the power, the ELSD, its sensitivity to alignment, and tire width / tramlining, all combine to contribute to the tail wag on acceleration. I wish Firestone had replaced the bolts last week, but somehow that got lost in translation.

Next time.
