Creaking sound as it gets colder :s
I've been having this issue since new. The minute the weather gets a little colder, the roof starts creaking.
It's the same with the windows up or down. I thought it was where the rubber weatherstripping was connecting along the roof line because that's where I am hearing it. However I used a little bit of grease to lubricate the 2 main joints and still creaking. Very annoying when driving. Anyone have a thought or experience this problem?

Started hearing it as well. Not a clue what it is or tried anything to fix. Just thought it was normal.

I can't believe nobody has been able to figure out the problem or even address it.
My wife as a Mercedes convertible... and absolutely no issues with hers. So I don't think it is common in convertibles. I may ask the dealership when I'm in next time for an oil change.

I own a '17 SS conv. In the past, I owned a 69 Lemans conv, 94 Z28 conv, and 09 CLK conv. I found that inevitably, the top will start making noise as the seals shrink due to the cold and things rub together more. ... I've read you're not supposed to use things like Armor All or similar silicon based sprays, and definitely nothing with a petroleum base. ... I also read the BMW makes a spray for their convertible top squeaks. Good luck.

I haven't used it on my convertible yet, but gummi pflege worked wonders on my other car. Once a year is enough to keep the door and sunroof seals quiet and well conditioned.

Always used this on my BMWs (Z4 and E93) and it worked great, been using it on the Camaro for the past few months (2 or 3 applications) not managed to stop the wind noise from my driver side window but certainly not getting many squeaks from the seals. Also it's a great protector which is super important in AZ.

Does it sound like a plastic on plastic contact or "ticking" noise? If so, I had the same thing - try pressing your fingers in the gap between the top's plastic trim and the plastic header on the windshield - if the noise goes away, its the same thing I had.
At first I thought it was the vertical plastic surfaces rubbing on the each other, but eventually figured it out to be the horizontal surfaces of the top's plastic trim and header trim. I put a 1" wide adhesive felt strip along the entire length of the top's piece and the problem has pretty much disappeared. |
