GM Performance CAI

For the GM Performance CAI, is it good? Is the included tuning to increase horsepower due to different airflow or is it for emissions, keeping horsepower the same?

The tune is for emissions. The horsepower bump will come from the increased airflow.

Pretty sure the tune is for emissions. Didn't notice any difference in performance. I wanted to keep it all factory parts.

And you have to get the tune for the warranty too, right? But granted, not sure if you'd really notice a 5-10 hp increase. Maybe quicker to respond to throttle.
Otherwise, I guess you would only get it because it looks cool and to make it easier to keep the engine cool?

How would it keep the engine cooler?

Supposedly it puts less strain on the rest of the cooling components since it's not taking in hot air

I think James has it right. By themselves CAI's do little to nothing other than change the sound.

Just like around 5 hp? How does the sound change?

Despite what some folks say, it’s a good mod to do even if it makes 5 more hp! I had a Cold Air Inductions unit on my 2016 SS and it seemed to help with throttle response and intake sound too. The GM intake is made by Cold Air Inductions and it is a quality part that looks good under the hood too.

I'm delighted with mine because it looks and sounds good. I'm also pleased that it retains the warranty. Get ready for a wrestling match with the dealer regarding the tune that is included in the price but if you take the directions with you, you'll win that fight.
