Oil smell while driving at low speeds

All, there are many threads on this. It's not as simple as pavement or spilled oil. It's remains unsolved but most indications is its the rear main seal.

Im far from the mechanical expert but this is what I've read and in some cases replacing the seal solved the smell. However not all dealers are willing to replace the seal. Mine being one of them.

Would this cause a clutch chatter when starting out first thing in the morning????
My 2014 ss has a oil smell at times also.

Mine used to smell like oil too. I got LT headers and a tune and haven't smelled it since. It really doesn't make much sense.

Has nothing to do with it. I've had my headers and tune at 6 months with less then 4k miles and I still get the smell here and there.

IMO it has something to do with the PVC system maybe releasing fumes.

I agree with the "not resolved" answers. I saw this issue with both my ZL1 and Chevrolet SS sedan. It usually happens right after an oil change and goes away after a few hundred miles. In my case it definitely was not residual oil from spilling. I was already aware of the issue so extra care was taken to make sure no spillage occurred.

Yeah, I do my own oil changes and make sure I don't spill any oil. It's not oil spilling. No leaks on the block that I can see - that being said, I haven't checked the rear main seal.

Definitely not fresh pavement. I know what asphalt smells like.

Maybe it's my seat burning because I've got such a hot ass?

Turns out I do have a really slight leak behind the starter. Huh. I've never seen oil on my garage floor.

I might need to check this out too. I notice this when I am at a stop after the engine is warm. Smells like oil, but I haven't seen any oil leaks either.

I'd bet anything that will not fix the smell.

I have just started smelling oil as well. I recently got a cam installed and the maggy last year. Now I can smell oil after getting on it a few times. Plus I had the cats removed but that's a different smell. I can smell the oil separately. I have just over 80,000 km's and about 10,000 km's of that is with the blower and around 2k with the cam.

I guess I have to get under it and look for a leak. Can anyone post some pictures of where the leaks are coming from?
