Cold wound is typically used for motorsport coils, coilovers, smaller diameter coils. The looping large diameter OEM coils are better suited to hot winding, they hold the height better over time. Cold winding is a less expensive process that lends itself to lower volume production. OEMs get the cost of hot winding down with huge volume runs.
