2018 Mustang to get 10-speed auto? Camaro to follow suit?
http://www.autoblog.com/2016/06/20/1...-ford-mustang/
It seems like the 2018 Stang may be getting the 10 speed unit in the F150 and ZL1. I said a while ago that I think the 10 speed unit will be in all auto Camaros in 2018 and I think this makes it even more of a possibility. We know it fits in the Camaro Alpha platform. |

That'll help close the gap.

I thought I read that it was designed to be the same size as the 6 and 8 speed.
Camaro will probably get it for the MCE, 2019? |

That'll be a nice little performance bump for the last two model years of Mustang's gen 6.

Maybe it'll pick up a couple tenths in the 1/4.. I'd like to see an engine upgrade for the Mustang.

I said it a while ago, but an 8+ speed (we all knew it would be the 10 speed though) would help the auto Mustang a lot in its straight line performance, but I don't believe it will be enough to make the playing field even. That said, I'm betting it will close the gap quite a bit.
But yeah...its only a matter of time before the Camaro SS gets a 10 speed as well. Then the Camaro may pick up another 10th or two and the gap widens again. Mustang will need more power or less weight, or both to catch the Camaro in this generation.

I would bet the MY18 mustang will get a power bump.

This is the "down side" to having the higher selling car, there's little incentive to make substantial improvements.

Unless Ford allows automatics in their performance based Mustangs it won't do a thing. GT350 and GT PP are manual only...the regular GT suspension is pretty crappy and IMO the Performance Package is a must have option on that car.
Even if the rest of the Camaros get the 10 speed option it won't really add all that much to the performance as the ratios are pretty similar to the 8 speed. Maybe a tenth or so in the 1/4 mile if it really shifts better than the 8 speed. But, it should definitely add to the MPG's without a doubt... |

We'll see how the calibration is for the Mustang....both companies went there separate ways once the engineering/design of the core hardware was completed.

That is why I'm holding out hope that '17 ZL1 w/A10 will not get a GGT and possibly why '17 Z06 is nowhere to be found. They're trying very hard to figure out how to get A10 in there to bypass that GGT and to help with the cooling issues.

A manual 6th gen Camaro is still quite a bit faster than a manual Mustang, so they will need a power bump as well as some handling tweaks to really close the gap. I don't see the GT matching the SS anytime soon. The Bullit or Mach 1 will probably be the Mustang that is on par with the SS.
