New ZL1 Recaro seat rip

Did anyone experience seat problems on their Zl1.

Today I had my 'large' friend sit in my ZL1 which resulted in a seat tear.

Is it a problem with seat quality ?

Can this be claimed via warranty?

Thanks

It was at this moment that he knew he ****** up

Jokes aside, it seems to be a slam dunk warranty repair candidate. However, while an upholstery shop can easily repair the seam, not sure how a plain GM dealership would handle it...

Never seen this happen before. I wouldn’t mention the size of your friend when you take it in. The seat still shouldn’t have ripped.

Wow that is a bad rip! A dealership would probably farm it out to an upholstery shop to fix or replace the cover.

I have the same situation on the used 21 1LE I just bought. I took it to a dealer to have some warranty work performed and asked about seat repair. Quoted me a price for new seat cover. No mention of repair under warranty.

The stitching is weak because of the side airbag. I would not try to repair it. Last I heard the covers were on back order.

Mine was doing that off the dealership lot, brand new. I got it to the dealer within a year, because after about a year, they start denying interior-type stuff, and just call it wear. They had to get pre-approval from the district representative, even though I had ghetto seat covers and everything. It was BS. It got covered, but the lack of immediate support was crappy.

Unless the car's less than a year old, I wouldn't be sure they'd take care of it.

Recaro Seat Seam Fail

I have challenged my dealer that this should be covered under warranty. We'll see where this goes.

I have the same issue on my car, drivers side. I'm at a little over 31k miles in just over a year. I thought about taking it to a dealer for repair, but I'll probably just go somewhere else and have the seat covers changed up, since I want to go with a different color.

Recaro Seat Back Repair

I was blessed to get the driver seat back cover replaced under warranty on my 21 turbo 1LE.

I looked at buying a cover but was unable to identify the part number. My invoice listed part number 84862652. I looked that number up and found out why I could not find a number. The description for this part says nothing about recaro. That part number is priced a little over $500.

Seems like the joke about the moped could be inserted somewhere in here.

Hey guys!

Ok I'll confess, I've seen people reporting this, snd I really thought such a tear would only ever happen to... heavier set guys So I never gave it a second thought.

Well, fast forward to yesterday, when to my dismay I noticed my own ZL1 seat is doing the same thing I'm barely 150lbs, and I never "jump" into the seat, so I can't explain how that would have happened, other than there was a defect to start with.

My questions, to those that have had this handled by a dealership: Do they have to take the whole seat out of the car to repair it? Is this considered a minor repair which is hard to mess up, or should I be very careful who I take it to, lest they screw up more of the interior than they fix?

Geoff
