FWIW, I've got an MGW in my GT, so that'd be my recommendation as well. Though since I personally hate notchiness, I actually fabbed up an extension piece to reduce notchiness without sacrificing the greater precision over the OEM pieces.

A weighted shift knob helps the shift lever keep moving once you've got the shift motion started (it's an inertia thing), and I guess you could say it sort of absorbs some of the notchiness as it helps your right arm power through it. I'm pretty sure that it's possible to overdo this 'weighting' thing, though.

You can have to much weight. At a certain point it becomes a bad thing for the transmission. Or so I’ve heard. I’m not a transmission specialist.

Yes, please share the link for the weighted knob.
Correct, it is the style. Some like the round and some like the flat. Link for shift knob below. There are others as well. FYI the link is correct. Dunno who came up with that name.

But I sooo love my HURST.
Hurst built their aftermarket reputation on shifters where the shift linkage featured two or three shift rods external to the transmission. That was George Hurst's doing, and he was no longer associated with the company after about 1970 when it was sold (for the first time). After that (IMO), the company was never the same. George was also the inventor of the Jaws of Life . . .

Thanks Norm.. I still say the Barton is one of the best mods I have done so far. Unreal what a difference that made so I really have not thought much since for options.

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences. Really makes me want to try the MGW and a weights knob just to see.

I added the heavy Abrams knob that definitely assisted the HURST notchiness.

I actually hated the HURST without the heavy knob. I'm loving it now tho... made shifting so much easier.

That’s what I get for procrastinating for so long.

What's that got to do with anything? HURST wins the factor all day long!

Might have to find a machine shop to modify my Hurst knob, I like the classic look.
