Question Help With Codes P0729 & P0735

I started up my SS this morning and had a check engine light on, I ran the codes above and it says I have and incorrect 5th and 6th gear ratio?? Does anyone know what this issue could be? Car is running and shifting fine, I guess I will start off by checking the fluid first.

Transmission is not entering 5th gear correctly. Could be internal problem, which is not good news.
Also possible there is a speed mismatch error.

There was a problem on the M6's where the reluctor for the speed sensor was not torqued adequately. I would check this first.

Would low fluid in the trans also cause this? It was strange because I parked the car in my drive and was on an uneven incline and the check engine light went off all of a sudden

I started my response above thinking you had an automatic, then I deleted most of it.
I probably should have deleted the bit about not entering 5th gear, because I don't think that's a problem. You seem to be able to shift gears just fine.

On an automatic, these codes suggest your clutches are not engaging, and fluid might be part of that problem.
On a manual I think it's sensing speed mismatch.

Yea my manual trans is shifting fine, so it could be the reloctar wheel?

Honestly, this is weird. From reading on the internet, these codes only seem to apply to automatic transmissions.

I know there is a TSB for 2017 automatic SS Camaro's for a software update that corrects some random CEL's. But this shouldn't apply to your car.

If you haven't lost any fluid, I would disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes to reset the codes (unless they are permanent codes), then drive the car and see if the codes come back. If they do, then there is an issue and you should bring the car in.

I agree, that's why i though he had an auto.

But these two codes are basically gear ratio codes. The computer is looking at engine rpm, the ratio of the current gear, and the output shaft rpm (where the reluctor is attached). If the output shaft speed doesn't agree with the calculation it throws an error for that gear.

Since it's a 2017 I would check the reluctor as a relatively simple first step. The service bulletin is printable and you could take it to a shop. The speed sensor looks easy to remove and then you just see if you can move the reluctor with a screwdriver or something. It should be torqued on there rock solid.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. I will be taking it to a shop to have them check the trans fluid first and then change it out with the syncromax from Royal Purple, Ill also see if the can check out the reluctor and the speed sensor.

Also not sure if it could be the issue, but my battery was weak the other day in the cold, and the car barely started. Right after I got the check engine light ...

So an update, before I brought my car down to the shop this morning, I noticed my CEL was gone again. Had the shop first check the trans oil, and it was full, fluid also looked good, but now I had Royal Purple put back in. Car is still shifting fine, haven't noticed too much of a difference with the new fluid yet. I guess the next thing to check would be any sensors on the transmission itself?

Just switched to the Royal Purple Syncromax and it shifts super smooth, no more stiff gearbox, feels great!
