Installed a crate engine in October 2009. It was the entry level 350 (290 HP). This was actually an upgrade to the original 190 HP Z/28 engine. The engine is "bone stock", (with the exception of an Edelbrock carb & Performer Intake). The distributor is an Accel with high output coil.

Tranny upgraded to a 700R-4, differential is an 81 T/A WS6 (3:08 Posi w/rear disc).

Getting ready to install Rack & Pinion steering next month. The kit is already on order and being manufactured by Unisteer.

Runs better than it did when it left the showroom and has a better EPA fuel rating than new (by 8 MPG). Very reliable, could take it on a 3000 road trip tomorrow (but I won't)

Hey Ken...Rick here in St Louis MO...your car has come a long way, it looks great!
I still have my 79Z convert as well, but I'm needing to put some time & money into it to make it nicer again.
We just bought a mate for it though, a 2011 RS Convertible...and I'm loving it too!
It should allow me to take some time and work on the 79 since we'll have another one to take out.

I actually have some info/emails from one of the main managers who worked at NCE back in the day...he even told me who the top material supplier was.
He named all the workers in some old pictures of the cars being converted...it was really cool to get some solid info!
I still want to eventually start a registry website for NCE converted FBods...I just never keep at it long enough to pull it off due to work & family life.
