Same.. sold my '21 Silverado for 5K more than I paid for it to Vroom.. apparently it was sold yesterday for 1K less than they paid me for my truck. LOL.

I read your comment and thought "Surely, that was a $500 fine per infraction". Just looked it up and nope, $500.00 and a $200.00 administration fee in total. Absolutely ridiculous - that total is like 2 shares of stock at their current price.

Not sure what masks have to do with it.
Huh? In "some" states? If you finance a car, the lender holds the title until it's paid off. "Some" states will have the title remain with the state instead of the lender, but a buyer will -never- see a title while a car is financed.

Not true. NY is not a title holding state. When I lived there I had cars financed and I held the title, however the lienholder is listed on it so you can't sell the car without a release of lien document from the lienholder. So, while you hold the actual title, it is not a clean title.

Interesting that the lender wouldn't hold the title since it's collateral for the loan... I wonder how unique this is?

In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter since you either need the title AND a release of lien letter, or a title that shows no lien in order to transfer ownership to another party.

You're right that it doesn't really matter - the title is just a piece of paper that should reflect the state's records, and makes it easier for an owner of a non-financed owner to prove their ownership. The lender holding the physical piece of paper vs the borrower won't really matter in any court if there is an issue, it's about the lien status. Many states have already moved to a paperless system and more will eventually - lenders in those states don't necessarily even have a paper title, just an electronic record of it - a physical title is only printed by the state when the lien is released and the title has to be sent to the owner.

It is an online auction where you can save a lot of money on buying a car.
Buying a car is seldom "an investment". Save for the few that are already collectibles, depreciation in value is 100% expected. Large purchase? Absolutely. Investment? Not a chance.

As a result, buying a car is not 'profitable', nor is buying through an auction a way to save a 'guaranteed' amount of money. Used items always come with risk, and buying through an auction where you have no opportunity to inspect the item first-hand before bidding is a giant risk unless you know what you're doing.

If so, it was being done VERY slowly as it has taken something like ten months to make five posts. Talk about your stealth SPAM BS.

I would never buy a car like that sight unseen. The online car retailers may be good for a car one is trying to get rid of. The only way I would even consider buying a car like that would be if I needed the car right away, if I did not care about the condition of the car, and I'd unload the car in the near future. You can hide a lot between an online retailer and farfax (believe me I've seen it more than once. Cars with obvious collision work with no mention of it on the fax).
