And GM has and continues to boast about their use of high strength steel in its cab cage for passenger compartment protection and durability. I like the bold brashness of these commercial and GM's ability in using the mix material construction for weight savings plus added strength in areas that need them. Use the right tool for each given job.

Yeah and GM still put steel in the bed because putting aluminum in the bed is a horrible idea.

I remember the cage commercial that was along what I was saying it was only later I guess when GM started attacking the Aluminum bed in the Ford F-150 not that I would like a truck with an aluminum truck bed.

I often wonder why the advertising campaign wasn't effective in terms of sales for the Silverado. But like Mustang, there are loyal folks that'll buy the Ford product for badge alone. They don't cross shop brands. Or they just really like Denis Leary yelling at them.

I know its a Ford video, but when they launched the aluminum F-150 they did a video showing the truck getting a ton of stone dropped into the bed albeit with a bed liner and no problems. Also I haven't heard/seen of any problems in Trucks with the bedliner.

Putting a spray in liner on an aluminum bed completely negates the purpose of the aluminum in the first place. The liner is heavy.

While that may be true I can't imagine getting a truck with out a bed liner in it. That is just me though, steel aluminum whatever. any truck of mine is getting a bed liner I don't want to scratch it all up lol

The bed liner is optional equipment. Many work trucks don't get one and those owners aren't concerned with scratching it up.

I almost bought this one a couple days ago, but they low balled the crap out of me on my trade-in. Ended up with a pretty cool truck at another dealer anyway. Black side steps went on a few minutes after this picture and the bed liner goes on next week. |
