Is this normal oil pressure at redline for a ss 1le v8?

I dont think this is normal. 3.4 bar? with my v6 when i redline its at 6 bar. Does the v8 have less oil pressure? The car has 98,000 miles on it. If it is low what can i do to fix it.

Thats 50 psi.... which is fine if the oil is at full temp.

What is it at idle?

You should be fine with those pressures, I’m assuming you are stock engine wise?

1.4 bar is real close to the lower limit.

If the car is new to you, I'd change the oil with the reccomended 30wt.

If it helps.... good.

If not, you can run 40 wt. in the summer months.

I’d keep an eye on the idle psi but it’s not at a point where I’d personally worry a ton with the mileage it’s got and being it is stock. If you were cammed or had other power mods I’d be more worried. Worn cam bearings are one semi common area of internal oil leaks on the v8 cars. As said above you can try changing the oil and see if it helps. Never know, if you didn’t do the last change your self the troglodyte that did could have put the wrong oil in it as said above.

I'm not really keen on the bar system but others stated that it is 20 psi. With that being said like Aqua Blue, I wouldn't be too concerned with it being all stock but if it gets below that at hot idle I would be concerned because with everything I've read, they say that your idle pressure is really important. My hot idle pressure is at 34 psi with 10W30 VR Racing full synthetic but that's because I have a high volume pump.

Here's my 2015 SS L99/Auto car. The first photo is a cold start up. The second photo is al full temp. You didn't mention if your car was a L99 , or not. Keep in mind the L99 DOD lifter failures are directly linked to low oil pressure.

Also keep in mind that two cars with identical oil pressure might show different numbers on the gauge, due to tolerances in the sending units and the gauge itself.

If you have a DOD car, either disable it now, or I would step up to the 40 wt. oil.

Failed lifters are no fun.

That’s not really an apples to apples comparison in my opinion, because they use two different pumps. The L99 uses a factory equipped high volume pump because of the extra oiling capacity it needs.

Nope.... both engines are hydraulic lifter engines... and regardless of the manufacturer any and all hydraulic lifters need aprox 10 psi of oil pressure to function properly.

The OP is very close to this lower limit, if his gauge is reading accurate.

Can some LS3 owners chime in with their hot idling oil pressure numbers, and with what oil viscosity ?
