Should i get my SS cammed ?
Hello everyone. Im new here .. I was hoping someone can give me some pointers. I want to get my SS cammed really bad but living in California having check points just to check for non emmision compliant cars is never fun.
Will me getting my car cammed automatically make it not pass smog? And will headers do the same? Thank you ! |

Do some searching on the forum, but your goals can be achieved. You can get the items you want done completed, just going to cost you. Good cam, tune, and set of High flow cats. Some Cali guys I'm sure will chime in also.

From research I've dabbled in, in the past, you won't be able to go large cam, but I think you should be able to get a modest cam with nice sound and some power gains. Then coupled with LTH, HF Cats, and CAI, should get some gains.
[COLOR="Red"]Also move this over to the V8 Bolt-on section..prob gonna get more hits over there. |

I'd be nervous to do anything in Cali, if you pick the short straw and LEO comes down hard it would be unpleasant.
But..there are a lot of car folks having a good time, modding as desired with no apparent issues. If you're worried, just look for CARB compliant stuff. Maybe start with GMPP, get it done at a dealer etc. They'll keep you legal and the work will be reliable. https://www.chevrolet.com/performanc...aro/powertrain Or forget the cam as that is the most likely to effect your emissions - save up for a CARB approved supercharger/turbo kit. There are definitely options to make nice power and stay legal.

Recent court case lost by SCT hand held tuners makes me concerned. If you cant tune it for your mods, what will you (we) do????

I have researched til I'm blue in the face for cams, but I am opposite. I rather have a nice power cam with none of the "hey everybody look at me" aspects. Want a nice sleeper, that stuns when you finally wake it up. Of course my exhaust is pretty loud now, so it's half way out the window on that. Lol. But everyone has a different taste, which is whats so awesome about owning hotrods. I will prob end up going FI just for that reason. |

I love the idea of boost but heat management would be a challenge. I miss the gut wrenching thrust of boost, it's addicting and would be amazing on this car.
