Key fob

Hi guys & Camaro Gurus, I tried today to programme a new key fob (GM OE not Chinesium crap) I got it to start the motor OK but it refuses to lock or unlock the doors; any ideas, advice or suggestions?
Cheers in advance, Ed.

Do you have an existing keyfob or is the new one the only one you have?

If you programmed it, using an original key first, then using that one, it should
work. I have a FOB with no key, but I still had to program it like it was a KEY.
More then likely, the fob doesn't work.
  1. Insert your working key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position (don’t start the car)
  2. Wait for the security light on the tachometer to turn off.
  3. Remove your key.
  4. Insert the NEW key (the one that hasn’t been programmed yet) into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position.
  5. The number of keys programmed should now be displayed on the Driver Information Center and your new FOB will be ready to use.
If you did that, it should work.

I think I have programmed 3 extra keys this way. Wife keeps "losing" them somehow.

You can only have NINE total, before you will need to RESET it. Once the DIC
displays "9 keys", you can't program any more without resetting.

It's 5 keys max.

I think I've found the source of my problem; I bought this new fob in a Chevy dealership in Austin TX, it's US frequency-dependent; my Camaro is an export build (I'm in the UK) I need to obtain a fob with UK frequency. Thanks guys.

Strange thing is that it will actually start the motor - DIC says "anti-theft system needs servicing" while car is running but disappears when I re-insert my original UK frequency keys. Same with our TPMS sensors over here too - different from you old boys. Every day's a school day ain't it?
