Spare option for the win!
So driving to work today on a lonely country road, I got my first tire blowout in over 30 years. Didn't see anything on road, but the shotgun sound of that big tire going at 45 really woke me up! So I get out to find some TOOL lost his tool and I found it!
Hard to believe that a pair of needle-nose pliers 6 inches long, could have managed to jump up and penetrate that new tire that way. But it did. And there was no way an inflator will help when that happens! Opening that trunk and seeing that silly donut tire really cheered me up! Until.. I had to use that horrific thing that GM calls a jack! What a piece of crap! At least I found the pinch weld where the dang thing fits. but the handle and that "hook" to twist the screw was just a joke. I finally got it completed, in about 30 minutes due to jack, and was on my way to dealer to wait 4 hours for a replacement tire. Opted for the Tire warranty at purchase, thank God, so the $250 tire was covered 100%! If you have the jack, please do yourself a favor and test it out at home. I have since added a couple of older OE jack tools that will make the next one 10 times easier! |

Holy crap! The way those pliers went in there is crazy.
Glad to see you are ok. That could have ended badly. Thankfully it wasn't a front tire.

Too bad those pliers didn't have a patch stuck in the jaws. You could have pulled them out and been on your way.
As for me, guess I would be waiting for a flatbed to take me someplace that doesn't have a tire.

I once had a 4 inch long 1/4" drive extension jump up and bury itself in my left rear. The front left went over it and made it hop up for a perfect position to go through the rear tire.
Amazingly, I was literally 1/4 mile from my regular tire store when this happened. I just continued down the road and pulled into their lot. Didn't need to break out the spare, even. The tire was patched from the inside and I was on my way in less than an hour. Now I have an extra 1/4" drive extension. |

Damn, I've been looking everywhere for my needle nose pliers. Thanks for finding them.

What if it was on the front? Will that spare tire fit over the Dreaded Roller Skates?
Or does your car have the Dreaded Roller Skates? |

I miss that, my V6 had the spare then when I went to the SS no more spare, oh well.
I had that happen once to me with a pair of Snap on pliers. When the tech pulled the tire off he brought them out and asked if they were mine. I said no, why do you ask. He said they are now cause they were inside my tire. |
