Axle Seal Parts
I have a very slow rear axle seal leak - 2013 2SS/RS, about a dime size when I park then it seems to stop once the car cools, or at least it never gets more than dime size. Car is in winter storage now and I'm curious to see what the spot looks like once I get it in a couple more weeks.
I found this video on replacement, but it's several years old. Does anyone know if the part numbers this guy mentions and uses are accurate and/or still recommended? And advice on where to purchase these parts? |

I had this problem starting last year on the passenger side. Watched that youtube video and contemplated performing the repair myself. While getting an oil change at the dealer I asked for a quote to replace the axle seal and they stated something like $370. That seemed fair and would allow me to avoid the pain of being crunched up on the garage floor for hours. I really need a lift for jobs like this. Anyway I let the dealer replace the seal and avoided the pain (51 years old now, can't crawl around on the ground like I used to). At some point today I will dig out the service papers and try to provide you with the part numbers and final cost. They also changed the differential fluid so that added to the cost.

Okay, here's what I got:
92230580 - Seal 5,822 = $17.41 88900401 - Lubricant 8.800 = $29.34 Labor = $305.80 Total = $352.55 I hope this helps. -Ray Last edited by blumaro; 03-26-2021 at 07:11 PM. |

Awesome, thanks! Yeah, I definitely don't want to drop my 48 year old bag of bones on the garage floor anymore either. Feared a ridiculous dealer estimate, but that's actually encouraging enough that I will take it in for a look once I pull it out of hibernation next week. Thanks again
Also...did they replace the axle nut? Last edited by SSASSIN13; 03-27-2021 at 06:34 PM. |

I didn't see the axle nut listed on the service papers. Are the axle nut one time use? If so I had better call the dealer. Thanks for the head up.

Yes. The guy in that video explains it when he takes the old one off. During the original install, they can distort when being torqued down so if the same nut is reused the impact wrench may not have enough grip or surface to achieve recommended torque
