No worries, I won't even take mine out until it hits 40 here...The NW wet roads are like a skating rink on these tires for sure.

I know that when it’s 30 degrees outside I’m very careful driving my ZL1 because of the GY supercar tires and try not to drive it if I can drive my truck instead. Those tires are like hockey pucks when cold until they get warmer.

When its cold out in my SS I really have to becareful. Here in TX we have access roads often times of which cars are traveling just as fast as they are on the freeway so when I turn I have to fearfully ease my way into high speed non ceasing traffic then when I feel its hooked just enough I give her some throttle and pray... usually it just results in some wheel spin as she gets up to speed but sometimes she will get squirrely and I'll have to break my accelleration to keep it under control while having cars angrily passing me by at 70 and 80.

IME below 60 degrees you lose a lot of grip and it under 40 they are dangerous.
They are designed for track so you won't see warm on the street unless it's hot out and you're driving fairly quickly on twisty roads. They warm up slowly for autox use, they need a few laps to get up to temps and perform normally, but on hot days they don't overheat like RE71s.

Yes I agree with you DaveC that the GYs are dangerous when they are cold! Scary dangerous!

It's too bad that the performance versions of the Camaro doesn't have a true tire. temp. sensor that shows actual temp. and not just a broad range grouped together by a color code.

I think Camaro should have factory performance all-season tires standard on all non-1LE trims, with summer performance tires optional. Not everyone lives in the south or socal. Challenger has performance all-seasons standard on all trims up to 305 section on the Redeye.
I live in the midwest where summer-only tires mean it's a 6-7 month car or I have the expense and headache of an extra set of wheels/tires. Summer only performance tires are simply not safe in the cold weather, and can damage the tire in really cold temps. I think GM maybe figured this out since the C8 has performance all-seasons on the non-Z51 base car. |

I am curious about the color indications being mentioned. Where is this displayed, and is it something that was added after the 2016 model year and/or only on certain sub-models?

The tire temp display is under the performance tab in the digital gauge cluster. The 2016-2020 2LT-3LT, SS models, and ZL1 models have this standard, Not sure about the LS, 1LT or LT1 trims.

What the OP is describing has nothing to do with the type of tires.
Jeeze Louise. Don't schools teach basic science anymore? The pressure in your tires is affected by temperature. Google Boyle's Law. Pressure changes by 1psi for approximately 10 degrees F of temp change. So when you exit the garage on a winter day the pressure drops. As you continue driving, the rubber heats up from flexing and the air temp and pressure in the tires go back up. |

Sometimes the pressure can increase as much as 5 to 10 lbs when the tires get thoroughly warmed up I have noticed!

Thanks! I'll look for it when my SS comes out of hibernation.
