2020 Silverado LT Trail Boss vs. Rubicon

2020 Silverado LT Trail Boss (I hear that in 2020 MY the 6.2 will be available in this trim, already available in GMC AT4) or

2019 Rubicon

What would be your choice and why?

I've sort of been on the fence, kinda want another "toy" for off-roading. Used to have a 07 Tacoma (hence the username) and used it occasionally off-road.

I like the Rubicon and it's off road capabilities, but the wranglers seem so under powered. I wish they offered something like a 5.3 V8 or even a V6 turbo or something.

Even if they did offer a higher powered motor, there's the utility of a truck, which is always....utilitarian.

Yes, Jeep now offers the Gladiator, but damn it looks weird.

I think I lean toward the Silverado, what about you?

For me, although these both offer off road packages, the Rubicon is for either: A) the serious off roader or B) the person whom just loves Jeeps (its a "Jeep Thing") and wants the look/style.

The Silverado is more practical while still having that lifted / off road look and feel to it. The 6.2 and 10 speed is amazing, so pretty hard to overlook that. The Rubicon can't touch it in this area.

For me, and what I do, it would be Silverado all day. If I was a Jeep guy...well then, you know.

Side note: I honestly mean nothing offending about this, but I feel like I actually see more women driving Wranglers (all styles from lifted to stock) than men any more.

If FCA builds Wrangler to the same standards as my Charger then Silverado all day long and never look back.

Good points, and even die hard off-roaders take their Rubicons, put 37 inch tires on them and mod away. I'm not that into it, just wan't something I can go to moderate off-road camping and such.

To be fair though, cop cars face much more rigorous driving and "abuse" than the average car, IMO. Having worked with Police for 13 years, I saw how they were driven - Hard, stop and go, idling etc. All that takes a toll.

Is your issued to you and you alone, was it brand new? That would be a little different.

It’s kind of an apples to oranges comparison. The Rubicon is far more off road capable. The Trail Boss is basically a Z71 with a cheap spacer lift. Other than the slight lift, I don’t think it offers any more off road performance than the Z71.

The Silverado would probably be the better daily though.

I didn't look at what they did for the lift, it is just a spacer, disappointing. Coilovers are the way to go, I'll have to look at a different build option perhaps.

I'll be the guy to give you a recommendation you didn't ask for: buy the ZR2. If you want a toy for off roading.....

Granted both cars I've had were already used, but even our brand new Chargers have ridiculous issues. Currently dealing with the interiors reeking of gasoline.

100% agreed. I've ridden in a friend's ZR2 multiple times and the thing is "t*ts on glass"! GM hit a homerun with this mid-size model. Sure, it's not a full-size, but his 4-door is very spacious. 2-3 adults can easily fit in the back with room to spare. The V6 has plenty of pep and the spool-valve dampers are second to none. If I was in the market for a pick-up, the ZR2 would be the ticket. A smaller exterior footprint, a large and spacious interior, plenty of V6 power and more off-road capability than 99% of 4x4's that are available.

lol I was thinking this also, as it gives you the real off road chops, but still with good road feel and manners.

But I didn't say anything since he was asking about a full size.
