Need help

Hi guys. I’m looking at this camaro 1ss 1le for sale. I looked at the engine bay to see what’s done to it. The dealership really doesn’t have a clue because they got it in on a trade in. What I can tell so far it has a catback with two resonators on each side and no mufflers. It’s cammed. There’s a CAI, oil catch can, so aftermarket pulleys it looks like and a short throw shifter. I think the pulley was an aftermarket crank pulley. If you guys can point anything else out that would be nice. I can’t tell if there is new heads. The car makes 478whp and 448 torque. Also to notice when I’m low rpm in first and second the car bogs back and forth. Does that just mean it needs to get a tune for better driveability?

After taxes and everything they want 33,169.32. Is that a good price?

That is a little pricey. There is a lot for sale around 25K that have a lot more HP...

Miles?

If it doesn't run right it could be a real money pit and the price is fairly high unless it is low miles. You don't do all that work and baby it btw.

Yep, that's just a tad too much for that one!! They probably only gave whomever traded it about maybe 18-20k for it and they are out to make a killing on it!! One of my Camaro friends got 23k for his 2014 SS with only headers and a CAI at a dealership, and it was in mint condition, then he went and bought a friends 2013 ZL1 for 34k!!! Be selective on what you buy. There are some decently priced Camaro's out there.

So you are saying to wait for one that is cheaper. Would I be able to find these at dealerships or privately?

Unless they have documents to back up the work, or you are prepared for additional repairs, I wouldnt buy a cammed car. Pre-covid they would usually go to auction as a dealer would never stand behind the unknown work previously done.

So without knowing the previous work done to the car don’t buy it

The market is really high right now. Hold out as long as you can & you will find one much cheaper. That price seems crazy.

Best bet is to just look up ads in your area to see roughly where the market pricing is.
I usually assume they will take a couple grand less than the asking price, but in this crazy market a lot of dealers are strictly holding on to no-haggle pricing. If they think there may be someone out there richer than you interested in the car, they are willing to wait longer to make that sale.
