If it excels at its main purpose then thats a win to me.
A win for you, and at least as far as any replacement track toy for me goes, sure.

The problem is that for (too) many people, the performance aspects don't stand clear enough from all the other considerations to make it a win for them. Not everybody is really that hardcore about chasing performance into its upper levels.

Overheating is the current S550 Mustang's problem, not the earlier S197's.

Any requirement for premium fuel should never be taken as a downside to choosing one car to take tracking over another car that supposedly doesn't require it.

I would take the Boss over the v6 1LE any day. The only problems were the shitty chinese made getrag mt-82. If you plan to track, the Boss needs a new clutch/MGW shifter.
Ever since 2010 the S197 Mustang has suffered as a decent-handling car simply because of its stick rear axle. But the potential has always been there and a lot of it is easily unlocked with the right combination of aftermarket modifications and tire choice.

The front suspension on your Camaro is also a MacPherson strut, and with the very similar approach to the lower control arm as in the current Mustang in that it's now two separate links. The front suspension on your Camaro has more in common with the S550's front suspension than differences (other than calibration details).

And that's not a very good double wishbone design . . . it looks for all the world like what came on the very first Mustangs, and on the (US) Falcon before that.

The S197's L-shaped lower front arm has a lot more in common with the front lower arm of certain BMWs of the same era (mid-2000s). It's not the disaster you seem to think it is.
