Wow...and here I was trying to keep the other thread from getting derailed...lol

Maybe I'll start a new thread with a poll about the name "Panther". Then we can have a better idea of how many true Camaro enthustiasts there really are....lol...

A little over-the-top judgement regarding the Panther name and who or what makes an enthusiast, wouldn't you say?

Knowing about it and understanding it doesn't mean you have to worship it...lol

No. No one is worshiping it. It's about recognizing the heritage of the Camaro from design inception to now. It's a part of Camaro history, which a lot of us know.

I’m with you on this. I’m honestly surprised how many people love Camaro enough to be on a forum, but don’t know about the Panther name. Pretty surprising.

Some people are not that into the history of a vehicle. Before I buy a car, I join the forums to learn more about it I'm on a Kia Telluride forum because my wife has one.

Some of us are not that into the history of the car. The Panther thing is a cool bit of history to learn about the car but until the rumors about the last year of the Camaro, I've never heard of it and wasn't really looking that deep into the history of the Camaro to even care.

No-True-Scotsman fallacy is STRONG in this thread.

Uh-oh, now we know you aren't a true Camaro enthusiast
Here's how I learned about the codename, from Edsall's 2016 book, see below. I hope I still qualify as an enthusiast even though I also think resurrecting the Panther codename after nearly 60 years for just a badge is a pretty cheap shot

What’s more interesting is that no one at GM really liked the Panther name or wanted to use it on the car. (All Chevys at the time needed to have a name starting with a “C.”)

Interestingly, the Camaro with its new name was introduced at a press conference during the first and last meeting of SEPAW - the "Society for the Eradication of Panthers from the Automotive World.” Clearly, GM did not want to perpetuate the Panther name, and the smarter ones among us have done our best to follow GM’s lead and forget it.

The even smarter ones among us remember that from the 1990s to 2011, Ford used the Panther designation to describe its V8-powered body-on-frame full-sized sedans from Ford, Mercury and Lincoln - including the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, which too many of us have spotted in our rearview mirrors.

You’re right about the history part.

I’m a huge history buff, so that makes perfect sense.
