Range Device: One annoyance solved. A couple others created!

Had my Range Device for the past two days and happy to report it's working flawlessly. I've had this car for 5000 miles and it's guzzled two quarts of oil already. Hopefully this will help. What I now find annoying is my right foot hits the device when entering the car. Maybe because I wear flip-flops? Also not so keen on the blue light cast on my ugly feet.

The blue light is easily fixable with a piece of tape but I was wondering the best way to get the device out of the way before I break it. Is there an adapter of extension cord of some sort or should I just relocate the port? However, I'd rather the GM Tech not see that the port was moved.

I have to. It's Florida. I think I found the solution. A low profile OBD2 extension. It even has a power switch on it to prevent battery drain.

post back on how it well works when you get it, i like the idea of an on-off switch.

Thanks,

I have a right angle extension on mine and the device is tucked away under the dash where it can't be seen.

I bought a 3 foot extension from eBay and ran it into the glovebox where I keep the range device unplugged when not in use.

Not a good idea to wear FFs when driving. The first time your FF gets hung under you brake pedal when you try to stop, you'll find out why. Hopefully without wrecking.

If you didn't have the oil issue I would suggest just tuning the car and be done with AFM etc. I used to use the Range and my big feet were always hitting it unless I was extra careful. And it would throw codes from time to time though it wasn't a big deal.

Its possible the Range may help with the oil issue but that is quite a bit. My car used less oil with the range but that was from say a 1/2 quart down to none between changes.

My car is tuned now and it uses perhaps a 1/4 to 1/2 quart between changes at say 5000 miles...

This. I've kicked mine a couple of times too. I don't use the extension much as mine's not a DD.

Nice! I bought a low profile extension but I didn't know they made them with a switch. I hate unplugging and plugging it in all the time, I'm concerned I'll bend a pin or wear the thing out. Now I can just flip a switch.

It will be just like the Clapper lol. You can turn AFM on then AFM off while you are booting around j/k likely wouldn't be a good idea
